Anyone have advice on cleaning your safety razor

Gents,

I have recently gotten into wet shaving with a safety razor and I have already noticed the luster on my EJ DE89 is dulling out. How do you guys care for your razors? What do you do to keep it nice and shiny? Any specific products/procedures you use? I'd hate to damage it by cleaning it improperly.

Thanks!

Jason

Do you have hard water? You might just be getting water spots that are dulling your razor shininess. Scrubbing bubbles works treat for my razors.

Do a search under the safety razor forum for more threads on the question than you would care to read. Many techniques, most all work fine.

I have a few razors in rotation. I use each until I change a blade (4-6 shaves). When I change razors I clean the razor before storing it. I soak the razor in some hot soapy water and then give it a scrubbing with an old toothbrush that I keep on hand for that purpose. If you have some hard water deposits or a build up of dirt or soap scum you may want to try Scrubbing Bubbles. If the razor has ever been cleaned or it has been years, you may want to polish it with Maas or Flitz.

Toothbrush, soap, hot water. Oh, and wipe down the razor after every use on your towel. Mine still looks new this way.
