Anyone got info on the Shavex Zee-Kol DE razor, cirka 1910-15? (Pics)

Okay, all of us vintage addicts are in constant search mode for that elusive Darwin. But other British razor makers were alive and kicking back in the day, just think of James Neill & Co and the wonderful Eclipse Red Ring.

And tonight I happened upon another one, that I did not know anything about: the very interesting and stunning art deco style Shavex Zee-Kol Heavy Handle.

As I now understand, it was retailed by the Shavex Zee-Kol Company of 49 Blenheim Road, Upper Holloway, London. Registered in 1910, patented in about 1915 and made up until the early 1940s. The pictured specimen apparently is a very early model. It is solid brass, has a silver handle and chromed head, 62 grams with 38 of these in the handle. 79 mm assembled.

Anyone outthere know anything more about this amazing looker? I have found a little bit of info in here and elsewhere online, but I would really like to know more. Thanks.

A boxed Razex I picked up a while ago , the box is worn but says British Made on one side and has Shavex Zee-Kol Co. Ltd on the other side, the address is also printed on the box but is blurred .

Beautiful razor. I wonder how this no soap no brush thing works, as the pic in that add shows a well lathered up man.

Looks like the same razor indeed. How does it shave?

Unlike the ad you have on your post I did use a brush and soap so maybe I didn't get the full effect, it was a while ago but I recall 4 passes to get a decent shave .Only used it the once so I can't give a fair assessment but it didn't break into my rotation . Love the look and feel of the razor , maybe I'll give it another try with a Feather blade.

Thanks Glenn. I am a mild razor addict and always use Feathers, so I think there is hope still that this is for me! - Seller, a fine Brit, stated that it shaves like an Eclipse RR. If this is the case I am home free :001_wub:

Here's a few shots of my small Shavex family:
