What's new

Anyone going to watch "The Prisoner"?

When I heard AMC was doing a remake of Patrick McGoohan's classic 1960's allegorical series, I got very excited. This is definitely a show that could be updated to reflect our the dehumanization posed by our technological society where privavy no longer exists, and we are all more numbers than free men, as far our livelihoods are concerned.

But then I saw that this is positioned as a "reinterpretation" of the original series, and that they're basically using the same stories from the original episode. Not sure whether they're the original scripts.

So, I'm a bit disappointed. But I will give it a go anyway. Will you?

I would love to, but, no AMC, on my cable. I did rent the entire "old" series from Netflix. Really brought back memories from when I watched the original series way back when. Let us know what you think?

I have the DVR set to record it but I'll be suprised if I enjoy it. Jim Caviezel is no Patrick McGoohan (though Ian McKellen might be entertaining). That said, I hope the finale to the remake is better than the original series :thumbdown .

I have every intention of watching it with an open mind. I don't expect it to be the original, so it may well be fun to watch.

Here's hoping . . . .

Yes I will. Recently purchased the original series box set. Sort of remembered watching some of the shows when originally broadcast, but definitely did not remember the finale.

I heard the review this afternoon on Fresh Air and threw up a little in my mouth. I won't be watching it, and similar to the second Highlander movie, I'll be busy pretending that it never happened.

I had a week's holiday in a cottage just along the lane from Portmerion in North Wales a few years ago. Went for a wander around of course. A weird place! No 6's house is actually tiny with not enough room to swing a cat!

I've walked on the beach and Rover didn't come for me...

Never seen the original, but I'll give it a shot. I typically try to watch the first 3-4 episodes of any show that seems mildly interesting before continuing or dropping it.

Well if anyone is interested in seeing the original show for comparison, entire episodes are available on AMC.com.
I remember watching it when I was in Junior High School. We were big fans of the Avengers and Secret Agent back then, so watching The Prisoner was a no-brainer.

OMG...I can't believe that I wasted an hour on my life on this.

Can't even begin to say how bad this was in so many ways...Patrick McGoohan must be rolling in his #6 grave...

I respectfully disagree. Not that I was overly enthused about it, but it is a lot better than I expected. I will certainly watch again tonight. (Actually, I'm recorcding everything on DVR, so I may not watch it until later in the week, but I still intend to watch the whole thing.)

I generally tend to record miniseries and watch them back in full after all parts have aired. I will post my opinions after that. I'm not a huge Caviezel fan, so we'll see how that goes.
