Depends. If you're going irons or 1x reflex? No. Some magnifiers eye relief (Eotech's) is less than 2 inches, some are as good as 4 or more inches, might need a multi-*** for a magnifier or 1-4x red dot. I like keeping my nose touching the charging handle regardless of barrel length, so I wouldn't need one.
