SWMBO bought me a puck of Thistle Ridge Lime Spearmint and a puck of Bay Rum. She liked the smell. Can anyone tell me if these are decent soaps?
Probably not but there's one way to find out. Regardless of how good the soap is it was nice of her to think of you.
Probably 90% of farmers market/artisan soaps just suck for shaving. They're slick and not much else. The "lather" dissipates on your face. But I'll echo what was said above...just give it a shot and even if it doesn't work, show your appreciation to your wife for thinking of you.
And get a pump bottle of Kiss My Face unscented at the grocery store to aid the lather so if she wants to see that you're enjoying the soap, you will actually be able to shave with it.
Tried it!
The soap lathered well and behaved excellently in the cup. It went on nicely with a fine consistency. A little brush work and I had a nice white lather beard...
that disappeared in under 15 seconds!
SWMBO is showering with it now.
You know my Queen Charlotte Shave Soaps and Creams both have Olive Oil in them and they provide some of the best lather you can buy. I fear that many will now just see the words Olive Oil in the ingredients list and just conclude that it probably is a bad shaving soap or cream. You all know how it goes...You go to make a purchase and you read the ingredients. Some are looking for the words tallow, some are not, some will see the words olive oil. They want remember the few comments that state where it is located in the list of ingredients, they will just remember the comments that associate olive oil with bad lather. I know of at least 4 different times I have talked with other members on this board who wanted to know about QCS Vostok. When they went to the site they read olive oil in the ingredient list and that just stopped their purchase cold. I ended up having to send them each nice size samples to convince them that olive oil in the ingredients list is not a lather killer (in the list I did not say where in the list). It made me realize that their are probably quite a few that have passed on some great soaps and creams from QCS just because the words olive oil appear in the ingredients. I really wanting to impress upon those reading this that yeah olive oil listed first has a high probability that it will perform just as brucered, Kevan, jazzguy, strop, said. Remember it is where the word olive oil is placed in the ingredients, and not that olive oil is listed in the ingredients.
