Anyone ever made a corncob pipe?

I'm thinking of making one, just for fun. I'd like to make the whole thing myself, stem and all, kind of like they would have done in the depression. It doesn't have to be fancy, just the opposite, but I would like it to smoke well. Any tips, pointers, and reference photos you could provide would be great.

This is a pretty cool project. While I never tried myself, I grew up around a lot of corn, and the biggest issue you are going to possibly encounter is getting a big enough cob to cut and carve from. All the stuff you are likely to find has been genetic engineered for large kernel and small diameter cob.

A large ear of field or indian corn will likely give you a better cob than sweet corn due to the larger cob the bigger the ear the better.
