Anyone else tried Leather Honey?

I recently picked up some of this wonderful leather conditioner for a pair of beat up black bostonian oxfords that I wear far more than I should. I couldn't be happier with the results. My shoes soaked it up w/ ease and, two applications later, my shoes feal softer and look healthier than I can ever remember. What I am trying to figure out is if anyone has any experience with this product on softer leathers or colors other than black. I have a pair of burgundy Mezlan's w/ deer leather that I would love to apply a little love to. However, I am hesitant b/c I have read about many leather conditioners darkening the leather and I know some are not recomended for softer leathers. Anyone w/ experience using Leather Honey or another favorite leather conditioner please chime in. Thanks in advance!

Firstly, maybe you should buy another pair before you trash your beloved shoes? I have several pairs of near-identical Doc Martens, well they are the same boot except for age, colour, finish of leather. I am wearing the cherry red ones to death!

I agree that "most" leather conditioners, including eg lanolin & beeswax based ones, will tend to darken (AT LEAST initially) the appearance of leather. At the benefit of extended life. The first question should be, what is the "base ingredient" of this product?
Is it the leather conditioner that is tinted, or just the shoe?

I will likely pick up another pair the next time my local store has a good sale but for now I am content wearing the one. They get worn 4 times a week to work. Thats more than ideal but they deal w/ it. I have resoled them once and they are back to work.

As far as the primary ingredient, I don't know... I just checked the bottle and the website (listed below) and there was nothing listed. In fact, in the FAQ section they note that they would rather not give way their secrets.

I am starting to think I may just have to try it on a small area and hope for the best...

From the leather honey FAQ:

Will Leather Honey change the color of the leather?

Leather Honey will deepen the brown of naturally tanned leather, but it very often comes back to its natural color. Please note that any leather conditioner that actually works will slightly change the color of naturally tanned leather, because it fully penetrates the pores. If you are concerned about a color change, try applying a small amount of Leather Honey to a hidden area on your item. We've found that most customers don't notice a change in color - and those who do often like the slightly deeper tone better!

So, short answer, yes it will deepen the color. Question is, will you like the new color if you do choose to apply it.

Contact them, tell them you have a nut allergy, your son is allergic to sheep, your wife to bees.....

Australian legislators don't let companies pull that crap down here. They have to list active incredients, and quite often anything else that any decent industrial chemist would be able to tell you about the product (incredients listed in order of composition).

edit:
even better, just tell them you've had a mystery allergic reaction and need to know so you can rule their product out.

Damn all these allergies of mine.

Commander- I saw that too... I may just go for it because I feel as though I have spent more time on this than the issue deserves.

Either way, I will keep you guys informed and thanks for the help
