One thing that I noticed was that a lot of shaving soaps and creams that I thought were really good when using a DE safety razor, are no longer so good in my eyes when using a straight razor.

Yep. A pasty cream or soap that leaves residue on the blade is less noticeable when using a DE.

Yep. A pasty cream or soap that leaves residue on the blade is less noticeable when using a DE.

Plus, some of them are not as slick, especially residual slickness, as it seems with a DE razor. The straight razor seems to shine a light on weaknesses.
