Anyone “cure” their lather?

I asked a buddy new to wet shaving how it was coming together. He said he whips up a nice lather…than goes to take a 20 minute shower to prep his whiskers.

I thought this was interesting. I shower, then build a later and shave away.

I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on how this would affect the lather, for better or for worse…letting a formed lather “relax” or “cure” for 20 or so minutes before coming back to it? Just curious to hear if you’ve done it before.

Maybe I’m over thinking it, perhaps I’ll try it tomorrow. :glare:

I did this accidently once, but i waited like 30-40 mins (Whipped the lather and didint have time to shave right away).

Results were kinda bad. I got alot of airbubbles in the lather and it become so fluffy you couldn't use that for shaving.

I would say that you should not do that :p

I normally face lather, but after I first lather up I let the lather work on my face for a minute or so and let the brush sit in the mug. I think during that time a lot of the air bubbles which have been worked into the lather release and makes the lather more thick and rich. Also, some of the water that has been retained in the handle of the brush flows out into the lather in the mug, making it more moist. Perhaps that is what is going in when the lather "cures." It does work.
