Lot of free books (out of copyright) on Google Books
Amazon has a TON of free ebooks, since almost all of the classics have moved into the public domain.
+1 to Amazon and project Gutenberg.
Gutenberg ...favorite, many formats including audio books, they have sister sites in different countries (Canada, Australia, etc) where copyright is is much shorter than in the States
KOBO...Very good selection there too, just type "free" in search parameters
Google books...only ick there is that a lot of the free books are straight scans not converted ereader friendly formats

Check your local library. A lot of them are lending ebooks now. Works the same way as checking out a regular book, you have a certain amount of time time to read the book and you can renew it if don't finish it.
Amazon and Itunes- They offer free domain ebooks as well.

+2 Gutenberg plus Amazon, using PRIME I can read new books as well with no fees. I can only get one a month but that's fine. I also found CDs with Patterson and Cook books from the 70's and 80's for a low cost.
Also, all the Conan and Sherlock books are on Gutenberg, a must read for every person IMHO.

I should have said anybody know any a site that offers GOOD FREE ebooks, because Gutenberg sucks. All gutenberg books are 60-70 years old. Google ebooks aren't free. Openlibrary isn't free. Amazon wasn't free to my knowledge, i'll check out "mobilereads".
Can you give us a some examples of "good" books you'd be interested in so we know what to recommend?

Asking for these books as "free" means piracy, or theft of intellectual property, and is illegal.
The terms of use are pretty clear about not posting about illegal activity, and it isn't something that we'd promote or allow here in any way shape or form.
There is some very good advice in this thread for folks who are looking for legal and legitimate free books, so we won't close this thread - but we won't be tolerant of piracy here.
There are plenty of sites that cater to people who would see authors and musicians robbed of their hard work, but B&B isn't one of them.
