What's new

Anybody else miss shaving with just one razor?

They are all quite different.
The Konsul is blade neutral, so the experience is much different than the Ambassador, Super Slant and Lupo (which I consider blade forward).

The Lupo and SuperSlant are different animals.
Both provide a great shave.
The Lupo is much more economical - so a better option for traveling.
Plus, for me, the Lupo is one of the easiest to use razors.
Not that the others are difficult - the one that requires the most attention is the Super Slant.
The angle is just a tad different - so minimizing pressure and feeling the angle is important - it also gives an amazingly efficient shave. A little practice and you get great shaves with a single pass (plus a little cleanup) and the fewer passes = less irritation.

Note - I'm really patient about buying things - so almost all my razors were bought new and on sale.
In a world or having to have it right now - it feels good to show patience, still get the things I'd like - brand new at 20% off (or more)

Mama always said that patience was a virtue haha

I have my dads old one a few I have to sell a few but only have my Timeless Ti I shave with
might try a tatara and might get another wolfman in Ti and I will end up with only ONE is my end goal as I am a minimalist kinda person and just want the best fav one
I can see that some love it as a hobby having a few and why folks do

I do have a few shirts I rotate but mainly 4 identical ones and 2 shorts that are the same and 2 shoes the same and so on
also hope to find 1 and 1 backup blade and soaps I can see liking 2-3 but again I will have a fav of favs most likely and just want to use that best performing one

I say if one enjoys 1 or 100 its all good

I use to own & use cartridge razors for 35+ years and the only time I changed razors when Gillette came out with a new product line and thought why not change(so I used some razors for 5 + years. I don't miss that anymore and like traditiional wet shaving and the variety and challenges + just learning how to use some of these SE razors to using vintage to modern DE razors.
I slowly accumulated shave products over the last 6 years and enjoyed that also waiting for the mail to be delivered to finally try something different like razors , blades , soaps to aftershaves! It costs money for variety but I figured after trimming my own hair and not buying cartridge razors and gel for the last 6 years I might be up a few dollars by now in savings!
I used a Gillette cartridge razor from 1973 when I returned from Indonesia until February of last year……so 49 years. I’m trying to understand why a wet shaving person would want to limit themselves to one razor, brush and soap.

I guess if it’s just about reducing costs to a bare minimum, that would make sense. I’m not a collector so I’ll never have hundreds of razors but I do appreciate the people here who try the vast majority of the razors out there and report their findings here.

I thoroughly enjoy my little group of mild to medium razors……all of which give me fun and engaging 12 hour shaves. The thought of reducing them down to one doesn’t appeal to me, even with all the comments about how you only need one. I can’t manage to feel guilty for finding razors that provide pleasure as I continue to age. I’ll be 70 in May……. Just one more semi-stubborn old curmudgeon. <eg>

I lost enough weight since January of last year to fit back into my favorite Duluth Trading dry on the fly nylon cargo shorts. I have quite a few pairs. I did have to buy some smaller shirts and ended up buying their Henley T-Shirts in black, dark green and their version of darker red.

Being retired and living in Florida makes clothes easy. No winter clothes required and we have very few formal requirements. Deck shoes work most of the time, though I do have lace up boots for more serious hiking if needed.

I’ve spent more on shaving gear this last year than I have on clothes since we moved to Florida in 2004. LOL

I know in that other thread a bit ago I had mentioned I do carnivore over 3 yrs now been life changing for me :)

did have to get all new clothes a few years ago twice ! Hahahaha I did not think I was going to get to my youth size weight so bought some more around the 220-200 lb mark but did only buy a few as I was hoping to loose more and did :)
But buying new again very few items needed like you mentioned where I am now in PHX and being form the islands used to minimal items

up till 43 I was around 175 lbs and then went to 275+ after moving off island to mainland
when I started the carnivore at 56 (over 3 years ago now) back at that 175lbs again and holding easily and truly look forward to eating what I eat anyway so truly do not miss anything !
For me no joint pain inflammation issues etc... just so many good feelings not eating foods that cause those issues !

I do think some should try carnivore and see BUT I think the big thing is just eating good whole food no packages no process food of any kind etc... :) avoid the grains and inflammatory items though big time

I live in Phoenix these days when we moved from the islands we had looked at Naples also which I do kinda wish I did now for the water !

Looking at Madeira these days for retiring to

That’s pretty much my diet as well. I do sprinkle in some fresh greens from time to time to make my wife happy. <eg>

I should be down to 175 by the time we get home. I’m still unsure where I’ll end up…….somewhere between 165 and 170 is my guess. I could get lucky and be all the way there by the time we leave. That might depend on how many times I walk up the two long flights of stairs. We do have a built-in stair climber at this place. ;) Twice up and down, taking out the trash, so far today.

What do you wear during hurricanes?

Over about ten years of DE shaving, I amassed a whopping collection of five razors ranging in price from $12 to about $30.

Oddly enough, most new razor purchase was better than the previous favorite. So I bought one used it exclusively, got another and used it exclusively, etc.

Right now it’s a Fatip open comb Piccolo slant.

About every few months, I take my shavette out for three or four shaves just to keep my hand.

I shaved with the same razor for decades. Now (with the scourge of RAD entering my life--LOL) I've got twelve razors. They are all better than the one I shaved with for decades, but switching amongst my razors, I miss the continuity and familiarity of shaving with the same razor every day. Plus there are, at times, surprises (nicks and cuts) when I'm not paying particular attention to the efficiency of the razor I'm using that day. Anybody else miss being in the groove of shaving with just one razor every day?
When I first got into this hobby, I bought a '67 superspeed. I used it exclusively for about 5 years. Never felt the need for anything "better." Had a few different brushes, and a variety of inexpensive soaps and shave creams. Then I bought a Fatboy. Over the next 15 years I somehow wound up with a desire to try the many various shaves on offer from both vintage and modern razors of all blade types. I'm at the point now where it doesn't matter what I grab, I know I'll get a good shave from it. I've cut back some, and probably only have 50-70 razors collecting dust.

I've got myself stuck in a situation where I'm pretty much being forced to use straight razors for a while (for research purposes), but at this point, unless I'm trying a new razor (my brother-in-law recently converted to wet shaving and he has all the acquisition disorders, and brings over anything I don't already have), I will always reach for a Rolls Razor first. All the benefits of having an edge perfectly dialed in for my face, like a straight razor, in the convenient form factor of a safety razor. As far as I'm concerned, it's the pinnacle of non-disposable shaving technology, and why would I need anything else? If I want a 'new' razor experience, I hone it on a different rock than I did last time, or switch to a different Rolls blade.

We’re fortunate in some ways, living a bit inland in Florida. Most hurricanes have been reduced to a Cat 1 by the time they reach us. There was one that made an unexpected right turn to the east and was a Cat 3 when it hit Gainesville back in 2004, just a few months before we moved here. The house we bought just after that had no damage but they had been without power for 3 weeks.

Living closer to the gulf or Atlantic is appealing but cost prohibitive for us. Our youngest son and his wife live in St. Petersburg and love it.

I’m in Gainesville. Small world 🌎. There were 4 storms in 2004 I think that impacted us but beer was crazy cheap so we made due with no lights :)

Well some people live in small spaces by choice, do storage of thing is a problem.

About every 6 month I go through my stuff, and unused item get sold, donated, or trashed.

The amount of vlothingg GM in my wardrobe is four paid blue jeans, 6 or 8 t-shirts, couple
Of long sleeve t-shirts, couple of sweat shirts, and two pair of tennis shoes.

I collect little except Cigars is storage aging.

So I get the person thst only has one or two razor, couple of brushes for shaving.

But also know some people in hobbies are great for razor companies.

Live and let live.

You never know with those storm projections which way they will go :). Back on topic, yes I miss the simplicity of one razor and may try and get back to that at some point. I see a fire sale in my future.
Seems you've already been selling a lot. Back off topic, my brother lives in Fort Lauderdale and he said the worst hurricane in recent years was the one that came from the Gulf and moved from the west to the east. He said they're so used to the hurricanes coming from the east that it caught everybody off guard.

I use a 78 super speed for most of my shaves that belonged to my Godfather , I will occasionally use a 60 super speed that ikeep on my razor stand alongside my 78 . I will Only use one of my other razors when I am on vacation, usually either one of my red tips or ine
of my flare tip rockets . I am very much a creature of habit and am happy using only a few razors .
