Any tips for cleaning jimps?

I've got several old blades that I'm working on cleaning up, but I'm finding it difficult to get the jimps cleaned up....particularly if they're very fine.

I've tried using a toothbrush and toothpaste, and the nylon and brass brushes on a dremel but the black (corrosion?) is not shifting. Low grit paper works fine on the shank but getting it into the very fine grooves is proving awkward.

Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm new to the site (brand spankin, first post) but would it be possible use a fine brass brush. Like pictured below. You could even get different cleaning brushes for a dremel tool. They have an assortment from an abrasive brush to brass and even as gentle as a nylon brush. Hope this helps.

I've tried the nylon and brass brushes, in a couple of sizes, they shift some but I don't want to be too aggressive and damage the jimps.

Bill, thanks very much for the link...they look ideal! Sounds like I'm not the only one who's had problems

Get white or yellow or both. Don't forget the proper size mandrel. Several mandrels. One to hold one disc, another to hold 3 discs, and another to hold 5 discs. Times two if you are doing both colors. Or more...

You can get these disks in the new Dremel polishing kits too, but these are way cheaper.
Thanks for the link!

I use a fine wire wheel on my buffer. Cleans up the jimps in about 5 seconds. Small wire brushes work good too.

Yep, I have one of the new Dremel polishing kits. One good thing is that the Dremel disks are already ganged in threes and held in place by a fitting that can accept either a standard mandrel or the EZ-Lock mandrel. I just used one on an EBay razor to clean the jimps after reading this thread, and it worked brilliantly.
