What's new

Any rum lovers?

I've just finished a bottle of admiral j tikki fire. Does anyone have any suggestions for something similar?

I'm more of a Bourbon, American Whiskey, and Beer drinker(with a great Cuban cigar) but when I drink rum, I REALLY like Havana Club 7,Anejo. I usually bring back a few bottles from trips to Cancun/Cozumel/Caribbean Islands.

Nothing from their "top" of the line or different years, just the 7. It's great neat in the glass or even with a cigar. I like the flavor so I've never mixed it.....doesn't need it.

I agree. This is good straight up, on the rocks, or mixed.

If you ever get the chance to try La Union, I would give that a go. It’s HC’s tip rum coming in at about $350/bottle on the island. It is too expensive for me, but perhaps one day.

I don't drink a lot of rum, but I certainly do get a hankering for it from time to time. There's nothing like a proper Daiquiri, and I also keep some sippin' rum around for when I'm in the mood.

I have been drinking a lot of rum recently, some of it funky tiki varieties.

Havana Club 7 anos is great, I agree. Not tiki. The entire Ron Abuelo line is really good, including the least-priced version. Again, not tiki. Perfect rum and coke rums.

Rhum Fiire and The Funk maybe be too funky for me, and the latter seems a little fake. The former really should be authentic and gets good reviews. I much prefer something a little darker and funky, like Smith and Cross, the various Hamiltons, Doctor Bird. Probitas has some funk, but is pretty light, and very flavorful otherwise. It may be my favorite rum these days. All of these are rather overproof, if I recall. Titrate your drinking accordingly! I would not drink any of these straight up.

Don’t think I’ve had it. That I can recall. The other port next to it is awesome.

Hows that LBV? I've seen it at Trader Joes.

I am with @TexLaw ... a proper daiquiri has been a recent favorite. Particularly like Plantation Three Star and Flor De Cana's white rums. Of course NC does not carry either!
A Taylor Fladgate 2013 LBV at Trader Joe's? That is amazing. I cannot imagine that it is in any way "bad." Do you remember what they were getting for it?

Not really a "true" rum to me but in Vegas I drink A LOT of Malibu Rum & Coke.

For some reason in Vegas with Malibu & Coke(even Jack & Coke) I can drink a lot of these and not be inhibited in my decision making at the table games. Casinos always have Malibu, the bartender mixes it correctly(how hard is it) and again.....I can drink them all night long (if I'm on a winning streak) and I don't seem to have a hang over nor headache the next day.

**Again...not a true rum in the meaning to me but I do partake of it in Vegas!!!

I've always focused on Whiskey, usually scotch and some Irish but I've been exposed recently to more rum and I've been enjoying it. A couple of years ago my darlin' wife went to Cuba and Brough me back some Havana Club that I really enjoyed. Then, last year I was able to spend a few weeks in Puerto Rico where I drank several rums that were very good. Don Q, Barrilito, and of course Bacardi.
Now rum is right up with the Whiskeys on my preference list.
