All right, winter is seriously setting in, and it’s time to take a crack at making a pipe. Looks like Vermont Freehand and Mark Tinsky offer pre drilled kits with fitted stems. That takes care of the majority of machine work. Any preference one way or the other?
I want to try and make something like this Dunhill squat bulldog:
I’m pretty much limited to hand tools at the moment, which is fine. I’ve made a couple hundred ceremonial pipes out of Pipestone, and a couple out of this orange stuff. Can’t remember what it’s called. Tangerine something. Not soapstone. A lot harder, and no asbestos.
Working Briar will be a little different, but I wouldn’t think that much.
So who would you buy a kit from? Any others?
Thanks!
Mark
