Any Racquetball players?

I just picked up the game a couple of months ago and I have to say, I'm hooked. If you can find a better way to cram as good/fun a workout into an hour, I'm all ears.

I'm 33, and while getting back into shape now, my hand eye coordination and quickness kept me from getting completely killed (playing with my father-in-law, who has played for years). We have an interesting contrast in styles, because I would consider myself a power-player, while he is definitely a finesse player. If I put one in his forehand range, I basically just give up on the point...he won't hit it any higher than 8 inches off the floor...automatic.

It's a great game in that, with some motivation, you can see marked improvements every time you hit the court. Not to mention the fact that I personally think it's one of the more forgiving sports for beginners because of the fact that the ball is confined.

Just ordered some good court shoes from Mizuno (should arrive today), got myself a good racquet and glove...all set.

Any other players out there?

I play racquetball three times a week. Squash is quite a different game: longer racquet, a ball that would be considered a year beyond dead on a racquetball court and a tin along the front wall which prevents you from hitting that dead ball very low. I've never played squash, but I've watched quite a few games and I suspect it is quite a bit harder than racquetball.

They are both a great workout.

oh cool thanks for the info mate...

I play from time to time, not many courts near me so I just dont get too as often. most of the time though I am on the handball court, at least when it is nice out.

I used to play a lot. Club I played at remodeled and got too expensive for me to justify playing a couple times a week. Its a bummer cuz I did like playing and it is a great workout.

this game is called Squash over here in the UK, i loved playing it, just don't get the time anymore

Ha, like another poster said, Squash =/ Racquetball. Racquetball is mostly played in the US/Canada/Mexico and is a lot faster (note that I did not say harder). I've tried to play squash and it is difficult to transition from racquetball to squash.

OP, racquetball is a great game and one that you can play for many years to come. It is impressive that 50+ players can still compete with people half their age. Stick with it and you'll get many years of enjoyment out of the game. Unfortunately clubs have been cutting back on courts due to the fact that 4 racquetball players can use a court or 40 spinners? can use the same space. It is sad but the only way to keep the courts we do have is to keep up interest in the sport. Good luck playing and let me know if you ever get to Colorado.
