What's new

Any metal detectorists here?

Got out for a couple hours yesterday afternoon! First time out with the garrett gta 1000! Found some stuff and had a good time! It seems like a simple detector but I have much to learn about it 👍

Got this in the mail yesterday! Pretty excited about it. A fisher 1266x 👍. Got a deal on it as it needs a battery box repair. Looks like an easy fix. Then it will be back up and running. My first time trying an analog machine that is tone only. I've heard these have a pretty good reputation so I'm excited to give it a try 👍.

Tinkered with it last night. Got some corrosion removed, bad parts removed, and rigged it so it could be tested. Works great! Also already have the parts for the repair ordered.

My detectorist friend was an audible only guy.

A tip that he gave me that I thought I wouldn't mention,
because nobody else does it,
is to detach the box from the rod and attach the box to your belt.

Even if the reason for calling quitting time
is never the weight of the box,
on some subconscious level
the weight of the box on the rod
factors into it.

Haha nice! That green garrett detector you can slide the battery box off the back and it has a belt clip 👍. Probably going to leave it on the rod though. That weight towards the back seems to help balance out the swing with a larger coil. Interesting stuff.

He used to swing it pretty quickly in 180 degree arcs
and he liked to cover a lot of ground rapidly.

All of the information, is in the sound.
The visual representation is that of the sound signal.

If you ever really get into it,
where you're spending a lot of time doing it
and researching your hunting areas,
remember the belt clip.

Added a teknetics omega 8500 to the stable. Pretty good deal I thought. Came with an 11in dd coil, a 4in concentric coil, the rain cover, and a tek point pinpointer. Poked around a littl yesterday with the tiny 4in coil and found a few things in the yard. Pretty amazing to have pulled them out of the bed of iron around the house. Especially when I've ran all my detectors over it a ton lol.

Found a bunch of coins on my first trip to the park with the legend. Also found a couple things yesterday at my grandmas but no coins. Looks like an old toy derringer cap gun.

Then I added some grip tape over the foam on a few of my detectors. I like it! Cheap but nice upgrade to the foam.

Finds from yesterday afternoons detecting trip at the park. Still finding loads if coins. Enough crunchy zinc pennies to make you sick of them. Also found some random tidbits and some small jewelry. Nothing marked but it was a nice change from crunchy pennies haha. There has to be some more interesting jewelry hidden somewhere. Have a good time regardless.

Detector: teknetics patriot with nel thunder coil (14.5inx 10.5in)
Pinpointer: teknetics tek-point
