Any info on this Mug

SWMBO came back from a trip to San Antonio and gave me a little treat :w00t:
I know the patent if from 1942. This mug is heavy stone, really heavy. The soap cake is a bit funky in it though, I'd probably skip on using it.

Does anyone have any other info on this mug? Is it to "valuable" use?

Seaforth was a line of shaving items that was popular during the 40's and 50's. Kind of a competitor to Old Spice. I think the company was based out of New York.

The mug is a nice piece of vintage American shaving. Use and enjoy.

The soap is a fairly highly sought after item, much rarer than the mugs, for obvious reasons. Don't trash it! Even if you think it's too gungy to use (I would beg to differ) you will find eager buyers on the BST.

Nice mug and soap. Nicer SWMBO for buying it.

As to value...you see the mugs go for between ten and twenty bones, a mug with soap and cardboard cover, but with nicer graphics recently sold for a little over forty bucks on Ebay.

It's a Seaforth mug.

They were at one time a drug store aftershave/ shaving soap company that would have been in direct competition with Old Spice, Yardley, Aqua Velva, and Williams.

The Aftershaves had quite a few different scents. Spice, Heather, Heather and Fern, for example.

The soap is likely to be an excellent quality Vintage Soap: lots of tallowy goodness. It's should be wonderful!!

See if you can wash it with some water to de-gunk it.

+1 on de-gunking and using the soap.
It probably won't smell anywhere as nice as it once did, but it doesn't mean it won't work as well as it ever could.

I have one of these that I picked up on Ebay a few years back. I used to see them all the time under "shaving mugs".

I suspect that the mug is still a common item there.

I eventually had more shaving mugs than I knew what to do with. Most are in storage in the attic.

Now it is on to shaving brushes and after shave lotions!

Cleaned up the soap and shaved with it tonight, wasn't as slick as I would have hoped, and it definitey has a distinct (not so pleasant) smell. Oh well, the mug is nice!
