What's new

Any handgun enthusiasts in the audience?

I've always enjoyed shooting, mostly rimfire rifles up until I was 18, then a mishmash of rimfire and centerfire handguns, and a few more rimfire rifles.

My nicest revolver has to have been a Dan Wesson .357, deep blue, 8" vent rib barrel. Extremely sweet factory trigger, smoothest I've ever experienced short of a Colt Python.

I've had 3 striker-fired autos: (2) Glocks and an XD. Nice, but nothing exceptional.

I recently got my first SIG, a German P6 made in 1981. Some holster wear, but fired very little. It was sweet! It did not like contemporary self-defense ammo, at least the ones I tried, but handled FMJ with ease.

Around the same time, I picked up a S&W 3913. As far as heft and shootability, it is very much like the P6, and does handle the hollow-points just fine.

I definitely have a fondness for the DA/SA auto. DA for the first shot (great for safety), and SA thereafter.

My most recent acquisition is a H&K P7... my personal "Holy Grail" of handguns. Very unique, there is not another handgun like "the lemon squeezer", either in form or function.

There's been lots more, but these are the ones I own/have owned that I find most memorable.

How funny you post this. With 7 friends we just finally moved my gun safe into my new house. Yes, it took about 4 hours to move it 20 feet and 4 inches through the back door.

I still have my H&K USP .40 from my duty days but I haven't shot it in a while. I love the new variations they came out with now. I have a few custom Glocks that were made here at Scottsdale Gun Club. But I actually like my XD more than my Glocks.

I did go through my own KAD (Kimber Acquisition Disorder). I got the CDP II compact, oh crap that is one of the finest guns I've ever shot. So that is the "peace maker" in my waistband. It's pretty light and 7 rounds of Black Talons will have a DRT effect on a attacker.

My wife carries a Glock 22 on duty but is thinking of moving into my Sig 229 as soon as she gets off of probation. She doesn't like Glock and feels like a kids toy.

Mmmm... Kimber compact. That's another I'd like to try sometime. Also, I just handled a SIG 229 and a 226 yesterday morning at the gun shop. Very nice. He was having a Black Friday sale of his own, with Ruger P95's for $269 (black) or $299 (stainless). Also Ruger SR9's for $369 (stainless). Nothing remarkable about any of those except for a great price for a rock-solid reliable gun... at least the P95, anyway. The SR9's are lined out now, too, I understand.

I neglected to mention that I did have a Colt .45 Government Model some 28 years ago. At the time, I didn't like it. I think I'd like to have it back just to try it again. Actually, I'd like to try a Para Ordnance Carry 45 LDA.

The Sig P220 Elite Stainless is my "dream pistol" . . . a friend has a standard P220 with Hogue grips and I can drive nails with it; sweet pistol and a natural fit for me.

Currently I have a Ruger GP100 .357; stainless, with concealed carry mods---shaved hammer, grooved sights, nothing to catch on clothing. Built like a tank, fits my hand, and I shoot very well with it.

Well, I began shooting pistols before rifles, which is odd enough, and even more strange is I don't care much for Glocks. I have an XD sub compact which I absolutely love. Unfortunately, I then found 1911's. My daily carry is a Springfield EMP during the summer, and now in winter it is the fullsize Springfield Loaded model. I sure do love those 1911s!!

still own my Glock 20, w/ hogues, and triji's x2, and slide lock extender, and soft trigger. Love it, don't need any other pistols when you feel you own the best pistol ever made. (although I do love the HK selections made above too)

I thought it would

My son and I shoot cowboy action, so we've got a fair number of handguns :biggrin1: Everything I own is either single or double action wheelgun. My summer carry gun is a Ruger SP101 (.357 mag) and my winter carry gun is a S&W Mountain Gun in .45 Colt. I also occasionally hunt deer with a scoped Ruger Super Blackhawk .44 mag...

Just some fun pics of The Gunny at the NRA show this past year and gathering of friends plinking around with some toys that can reach out and touch some one.

That sounds like great fun!

I know fast draw is not the same as cowboy action shooting, but I've long been a fan of Bob Munden.

My first experience with a 1911 wasn't a good one. I bought a new Gov Model back in the early 80's, and it was overly prone to stove-piping. I knew nothing about customizing, only discovering that later.

If I had it to do over again, I would have sent it off for some much needed mods... the first being to enlarge the ejection port. It would ding every brass, and whatever was performing that task also created the FTE (Fail To Eject) condition that happened about every other mag full.

I've got a Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter that I shoot competitively with. Unfortunately I cannot legally hunt with it where I live - des;pite awesome long range (for a revolver) accuracy.

I have a Ruger P-97 DC, .45 A.C.P. I use Federal Hydra Shock ammunition. I also have a Savage Model 110 .223 rifle.

Just got my concealed carry license. Now need something to carry!

Looking at a S&W 640 or a Ruger sp101

Of course everyone will have a different opinion on what to carry. But one that I like and carry 99% of the time is a 9mm Kel-Tec http://www.kel-tec-cnc.com/pf9.htm It's small - easy to conceal and not all that expensive. Are there better guns out there? Sure - I have a Beretta .45 that I really love to shoot, and would rather carry it, but it's a lot bigger and harder to conceal. So for me it's a trade off. By the way my Avatar is the second clip fired out of the Beretta .45 from about 25 or 30 meters, the first clip was center of mass - second head shots fired off hand.

One thing you might want to consider is the distance most police gunfights occur is what I consider to be close distance. You can search the web and get some information, a quick search gave me this article http://www.thehighroad.org/archive/index.php/t-65391.html It confirmed my suspicion that things are close range.

I am 61 now and have been shooting and hunting since I was around 13 years old..... one of the advantages of living in the mid-west as opposed to the big cities :)
