Any Experience with Giesen & Forsthoff Butterfly Top Saftey Razor

I have been looking for a TTO Razor primarily vintage Gillette Super Speed Red Tips on Ebay. I had looked at the Parkers, but based on the feedback I read here, I decided to pass. When I was looking on the web I came across the Giesen & Forsthoff Butterfly Top Saftey Razor - Polished Chrome for $22 which looked nice (http://www.amazingshaving.com/page/amsh/PROD/sar/gf1322). I want to assume that since this is German made, it should be a higher quality razor. Before I commit to it, I wanted to see if anyone here had any experience with this razor and could offer some thoughts on it.

Thanks.

Looks like the same razor sold as the Timor. Both this, and the Timor look like a re-branded Weishi. Weishi's are super super mild.

Timor is Giesen & Forsthoff, and according to another site it is made in China.
Michiganlover is probably right about it being a Weishi, I would get a NOS Schick Krona for just a little bit more.

Yep, that looks like a Weishi to me too. I would think you could get a Red Tip on ebay for that same amount or less (maybe a little cleanup). I have one and recommend it highly. A bit on the aggressive side, (but I like that), stylish, and nearly bomb-proof.

Well, I just ordered one so I should be able to give feedback on it in a week or so. Not sure I'm buying the comments about this being a rebranded Weishi. Unless Giesen and Forsthoff's website and product packaging is misleading, the razor is made in Germany.

Your link indicates that the Timor razor blades are made in Germany. So it says on the package.
Nothing there says that the razor itself is made in Germany.

So have either of you two gotten the Giesen & Forsthoff/Timor razor yet? And what did you think of it? How does it compare to a weishi 9306? It looks very similar, but it's not an exact copy of the weishi, and it can't be rebranded. For one, this razor comes in bronze(which is the one I want, unless it shaves just like a weishi. I wanna try something a little different), and the weishi doesn't. And two, take a look at this picture:
$1327_sb_back.jpg

If you look really closely at the handle grooves, take a look at the top and bottom, and then at the middle. You'll notice the rectangles made by the grooves in the handle are NOT uniform. In other words, on the top and bottom of the handle, the rectangles are longer than they are at the middle. If you look at the Weishi, all the rectangles created by the grooves in the handle are the same exact size. So, at the very least, the handle is different. Also, Weishi's website says that their 9306 series razors are made of copper. According to Giesen & Forsthoff's own website, theirs are made of brass.

Either way, I'm just wondering how it shaves. My only double edge razor experience includes a weishi 9306 and a black handled super speed, although the super speed doesn't really even count. I hated it because I had NO idea how to shave with one of those razors(my dad never bothered to teach me to shave. I'm not so sure he even knows how; I've only seen him ONCE without a full beard, and that was at least 15 years ago), and it probably had either a cheap crappy blade(my dad's a huge cheapass) or an old dull one. So in other words, my only experience is with a weishi. I personally love it, but I still wanna try other stuff.

It seems to me that some people are selling Weishi and calling it Timor, which is causing confusion.

If you click on any of the razor picture t their website, you will see that the base plate clearly says Made in Germany. I would thus assume that the razor is Made in Germany (at least the razor head).

I agree. Skip this new razor and get the real deal like you are looking for. A genuine Super Speed will make you infinitely more happy than this G&F (Weishi).

I'm sorry, that is patently NOT TRUE.
If you have some information that indicates that this razor was made in Germany and not China, please do share it, but the website and all copy on the pages are very careful NOT to mention where the razor itself was made. There are no pictures showing the head having "Made in Germany" on it.
They do indicate the RAZOR BLADES are made in Solingen.

If I missed a picture for this razor mentioned in the original post, please do give us a link.

That picture posted above is great! I have no need to buy another TTO, let alone more Weishi type things, but if I could find a Tech or something with that kind of Bronze looking finish, how cool would that be?!

This exact same razor is listed on Amazon.com as a weishi. Search for weishi bronze.

I have a MTO (which is a Weishi) and that razor looks the same to me. I think it's a good razor, but I'd buy the Weishi because it's cheaper. My MTO is very efficient and friendly with something like a Nacet.

After looking at every darned picture on their site, I found this one razor which has "made in Germany" stamped under the head.
This is NOT a butterfly or twist to open razor as discussed in the opening posts, but at least there is something there if you are inclined.
