What's new

Any boareal 976 owners care to share

I was wondering how many have this brush or have used it.

I just ordered one and was wondering what to expect. I've heard it looks good and expect the floppyness to be low, which is what I want since this is a mainly soap brush.

Any thoughts/opinions welcomed.

I just ordered one and am anxiously awaiting its 5-7 day shipping...darn holidays ...lol

It is very dense with a very firm backbone. It is a very nice brush. I recommend being careful to only soak the bristles and not the handle. the handle has a laminate on it that quickly degrades when soaked in water.

You will like this brush a lot. It eats up soap like a monster (in a good way)!

I ordered one too, two days ago on Saturday, from Shoebox Shave, which is where I presume you placed your order. Last night, Sunday of the holiday weekend, I got an email message stating that the order had been shipped! That's pretty impressive! I'm looking forward to trying it out too. I haven't used a boar brush yet, and based on some of the information posted on B&B and SMF, I'm looking forward to it. Good luck with your new brush!

I own one. Have been using it daily with a puck of Institut Karite for the last 2 months. It is a smallish knot - probably around 20 mm. The loft is not too long but more like my badgers. The center is quite firm with good backbone and the outer hairs surround the center and provide softness. It is simply an awesome brush on soaps. I have not had any problems with the laminate on the handle. I am careful to just soak the boar hair and try not to submerge the handle. With daily use, the hairs are starting to split so it is getting softer and better with each use. It takes a while to dry since the center is so dense, but it is ready to go 24 hours later when I need to shave again. Great, great brush for $20 - I don't think you will be disappointed.

Yes, I did order mine sunday night from ShoeboxShaving.com. I'll be check'n my box everyday soon 5-7day shipping was cheaper. I'm glad to hear some positive experiences with it and the price it was on sale for was nearly impossible to resist.

Don't overlook that comment. I have a 976 for about a month now and have already noticed that shelac wearing away.

Yes, I should have been a little more specific: the laminate on my handle started to degrade VERY quickly. It's disappointing, because I really like this brush. The laminate degrading has not effected how I use the brush, so it's not a disaster. I feel like the laminate degradation is a design flaw. The directions on the package do say: "do not soak in hot water." I didn't follow those directions to the letter, and my laminate is paying the price. It's still an excellent brush, though. As far as density, it's the best boar I have found.

My handle coating is chipping away too at the knot level.

I am curious what is under there....a few more months and I willl likely sand it all off and see.

Still a great brush though.

I know the handle does look nice but if the outter coating/covering wears off the handle I personally don't care. I'm looking for a step up in function then my VDH so all the positive comments have me excited and waiting for my brush to arrive....
