Antique Shops for Gillette

was looking for a gillette adjustable (in good shape) at antique shops within a 25 mile radius. shocker! all of them had sold out...six of them within week. guess i'll have to look here or ebay.

Know how you feel. Every time I go-a looking it's ALWAYS "another guy" was just in here speech. Why can't it be ME! :001_tongu Truth is I have been very lucky in my scores and am greatful. Just not in Antique shops. Let's put it this way. My finds at Antique fairs vs Antique shops are 10-1.

I've run into the same issue around here. Notsomuch with the Straights, but the only safety razor I see with regularity (meaning they don't sell) are old, grubby "Keen Kutter" single edge jobs.

oh...and a side note. we put all our aluminum cans in trash bags and stack them behind our trash can in our fenced yard. when i put our trash out to the curb for pickup, i noticed maybe 90% of our cans were missing. times must be getting hard! i'm surprised they didn't take them all.

Be careful, I'd worry that someone willing to steal my trash might be willing to steal more if things get tougher.

as the wetshaving phenomenon gains momentum so will the search for vintage razors get more difficult. hoard your razors lads - the boom time is coming!

The local antique shops have been very, very good to me.

Found locally on the cheap:
59 Fatboy
60 Fatboy Got both of the Fatboys for 30 out the door. They were nearly mint once cleaned and polished
Personna 74 blades, unopened....a buck
Superspeed
Blue tip
New LC
A half dozen Old Spice mugs
Old Spice bottle
Gillette blade holders.....cheap

Seen dozens of straights but don't know that much about them. Last two I saw were fine examples with boxes......I have the names wrote down and after checking an auction site, I probably should have went back and bought them both.

It's rare that I can't find something. Yesterday I found a desktop valet/shaving mirror made out of some kind of hardwood......35 bucks. I've seen them around town for over a hundred.

Not sure if I am just hitting these right or what.

I haven't had much luck in antique shops. There's one shop in town that had a pretty good stash of razors: a couple Techs, couple Super Speeds, couple Micromatics, several Gem Juniors, a Knack, and a FrankeNEW. All in a cigar box, $4.50 a piece. There were a couple that were individually priced, all the way up to $5. Like I said, that store had a pretty good stash. All they have now is what I've left them. The other stores I've been to have very little in the way of safety razors, and I bought most of the good ones. I haven't been to any antique fairs, but it sounds like I should.

My girlfriend is a huge garage saler/antique store junkie-its kinda part of her work, and I have to say in our travels in the nyc tri-state area razors are few and far between. Although She did score a couple nice user grade 40s super speed and 65 slim for me last weekend for very cheap. It was an estate sale where she waited in Line on a Friday and got first dibs. So I guess hustling can help.

I'm lucky that I work and live near several different antique stores. I can find Gillettes pretty much all day long or other razors, but I get beat by folks every now and then, too. But when I do find that awesome score that no one else grabbed up yet, it makes it that much sweeter. Keep searching and you'll find that killer score!
