antique Shave bursh restore by force. NEED ADVICE.

I bough this antique brush with a pewter handle. really great look to it. I had no desire to restore it. That is until i stupidly picked it up by the knot and the knot fell out :001_unsur. So Ive decided to restore it. The knot size i believe is 18. anyone dealt with a pewter handle? if so is adhering the knot going to be the same process. also what knots would you use? thanks in advance.

If your measurements are solid, then go with a TGN 16 mm Finest it should be able to fit even if it sizes to a 17 mm.

Use a good strong epoxy like Devcon 5 Clear.

Thanks for the info!I was thinking about using an epoxy called proPaste. I build my own fishing rods and this is the stuff i use to cement the grips and reel seats in place. Its a great water proof adhesive and holds strong. Curious what you think about that .

Items used for fishing rods usually possess the same requirements needed for a brush. From what I am reading it sounds like a 2 step epoxy and as long as it states that it can bond to metal, you should be fine with it.

I am also a rod builder and I have used rod grip epoxy on more than a dozen restores and new brushes. There's nothing better in my opinion. You just need to be sure you are happy with the brush because you can't remove the knot without destroying the handle. Rod epoxy is, and designed to be, permanent. I have cut the handles off and reused the knot. Good luck with the restore. Be sure to post pics of the finished brush.

finished Brush! i took GDcarringtons advice on what knot to use. The center of the pewter handle was hollow. I used tin foil and epoxy to build a base to seat the the knot on. the rest as the say was history.$IMG_20130626_063337_104-1.jpg sorry for the shotty cell phone pic.

Looks mighty fine!
Used it yet?

I have an 18mm Finest - I thought it would be too small, but it's one of my favored brushes.
