What's new

Antique road trip. (lots of pics)

Well actually, we took a vacation to see our son that we haven't seen for about 3 years. We were going to fly but my wife suggested driving so we could check out some new antique shops on the way. It was only 1300 miles, so why not.

I was surprised at how many razors I saw, a lot more than I've seen in a while. Well over 100 straight razors and even more safety razors.

On the way up here I picked up 14 SR, 1 DE, and a strop. We're heading back Friday, maybe I'll find something else I can't live without.

Here's some of the highlights, before cleaning.

Nice score!
Last summer we did a road trip to visit my daughter in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. 9000km round trip. We stopped in small towns often and small antique shops offered up an interesting assortment of razors. I bought a few News, and an English Rocket. Each of them was under $15 CDN. I bought another tech too. I already had a bunch of techs, but this one was a pristine Pre-War Canadian Fat Handled Tech for $5. SWMBO discovered it in a display case of antique jewelry. I had to give it a good home before some other Luddite bought it.

Wow, that's about twice as far as our trip. The driving's not as bad as you think it would be when you break it up with something you enjoy.

That Joseph Rodgers set is very nice - great score!

Thanks.

I'm not sure what the seller was thinking, he had a large Sheffield with horn scales for $250 and others with similar prices. This set was market $40 but the older gentleman showing it to me said he would knock 20% off so I got it for about $35 out the door. He also said he would take $200 for the Sheffield, I still had to pass. :001_rolle

We got up this morning and everyone wanted to go in to town and check out some local antique shops. After twisting my arm, I gave and went with them. :001_rolle

I can't believe how many razors there are around here, every shop we went in had at least one display case with no less than 20 razors. :eek2:

I was good today and only brought home 4, here's some pictures.

We were going to head back home this morning but my wife wanted to stay another day. I'm glad we stayed because I found a few more.

Another ERN. Is this considered a 1720 or a crown and sword?

Frider Harder. It appears to be NOS or close to it.

I also found another strop, a Dubl Duck cordovan shell in excellent condition.

OK but I am not accustom to driving on the wrong side of the road. ;) So put me in the driver's seat at your own peril.

I don't know why you want to torture us with your razor gluttony. You did find some magnificent razors. I love the Joseph Elliot and the pair of Joseph Rogers (and all the others). Congratulations.
