Antipodean agony.or How I learnt to stop looking at MF/Rooney & choose Simpsons

Oh the joys of residing in the mysterious and far-flung southern latitudes. In an age where man can free-fall from the edge of space, mail can be sent electronically and instantaneously does it not vex the weary shopper when confronted with allegedly "online" organizations who stock a desired product (brush?) and deem us antipodeans unworthy of transaction.

Alas, my yearning for an M&F Blonde Badger..or Rooney Heritage...goes unrequited and will force me into the arms of another. I hear Mrs Simpson calling...

Sigh!

To be honest, it's hard enough to get hold of these British made brushes even when you live in Britain! It's as though they don't want to take our money!

Yup.

Many a thread about difficulty making contact with the seller.
My searches were fruitless in finding anything other than what appear to be archival photos of late 1960s-influences color swirl designs, and most models listed as "pure" badger.
Now I'm sure that we're not looking at basic VDH-level "pure", but more detail on the knot would be nice.

I do love my M&F and Rooney brushes... But I'm sure many of you have seen my Simpson collection as well. As much as I love the performance of the M&F/Rooney, I'm about to turn away from them just because of so many issues with Lee and his follow through. Heck, I have an order placed and paid for a few weeks ago that's sitting in limbo and now Lee won't respond.

I love my Simpsons, Shavemacs and soon I'll be adding Thaters. Might just make them my go to brushes instead of having such a broad range. It's a shame because I absolutely love my Rooney and some of the M&F.

I shouldn't be this difficult, right?!

In comparison, getting my SR 3824 from Charles @ QEDUSA was effortless...constant email contact, check ins...

I wanna spoil myself for Xmas but it's feeling as if my money no good here!

I enjoy Rooney, M&F, Simpson, Shavemac, and Custom brushes with TGN finest knots equally; that being said, lately I've been going with the custom brushes more often, they are much more affordable and work just as well IMO

Update: Jim from Vintage Blades has returned an email and expressed regret at being unable to ship O/S due to in-house policy. As the almost-exclusive carrier of Rooney Heritage brushes I admit I am disappointed but am leaning more and more towards asking Rudy to do a custom for me in 2-band.

There's always a Rudy Vey custom.
Your choice of handle design, material, and color. Your choice of knot type, style, diameter, and loft.

I've got one from the 2012 LE and a custom Beehive on order.

Looks like USPS might have tried to deliver my 2 new M&F customs today... They didn't even try to get a signature, just left a notice in my box and walked away. Fail.

That is exactly what it is.

I've really been enjoying the B&B LE D01, and recently added a Simpson Super 2-band to the den.
They're great for face lathering... super scritchy!

Can I ask the specs on the knot? The Shavemac 167 2B 22/44 is one of several brushes I'm looking at. Also considering a SOC 2band or a duke 2 in best.

I know, I know... I've been torn for a while now on what to get. SBAD got me good.

I'm not 100%.. My B&B 2012 LE appears to be a 23mm, loft at around 45-48, but it very well may be a 22mm knot.

In Simpson, I'd definitely stick with the 2-band Super if you like a stiffer brush. My 57 and Commodore are both "best", and honestly, they are a bit "floppy" for my taste.
However, my Simpson Rover is holding up beautifully.
By contrast, my new Emperor 2-band Super could practically double as a BBQ scrubber!
