What's new

Another "What have I got" Thread

I humbly submit for your perusal a partial 7 day set I was given by a friend at work. Monday and Wednesday are missing from the set. These belonged to his father who was a barber. The barber gave straight shaves, but I don't know if he used these. Maybe he only shaved customers on Monday and Wednesday?

Inside the case the it says "A souvenir of Solingen".

Thanks for looking.

If you go to Germany tomorrow, you can find a new seven day set as a souvenir of your visit.

They are not cheap and probably the quality and finish is not as good as the set your Father purchased.

Clean the set up with some metal polish, re set the bevels or send the set of to a restorer to do this for you and enjoy a great daily shave, seven days a week.

Thanks for the replies.

I take it these will make good shavers?

I haven't taken the leap to straights yet, but am thinking I probably will have to learn!

Fraunezimmer is listed in the "Standard Guide To Razors, Third Edition, so you do have some provenance here. They have average value individually and a set always improves their collectibility. From the pictures, they look to be in easily restorable condition, however, you may lose some of the gold wash. My suggestion would be to contact Glen Mercurio (gssixgun) who is the BEST restorer and honer out there (this opinion is based on experience with many, even better known people) and, unlike many of his competitors, a gentleman who will discuss things with you. It looks like you could have some good shaving implements there, as well as some interesting collectables.

not if you want to lose the gold. well, use the polish, just not on the gold bits because they polish right off

I agree the metal polish will remove the gold wash.

So, put a bit of electrical tape over the gold wash and polish away carefully.
