Another Vintage Strop Welcomed To The Den

A nice score for my stropping pleasure, a C-Mon, Peter J Michels #410 with a linen second. Has a horizontal milled, grooved, cut back to the leather. First one that a have that has this texture. Don’t know if it improves the leather or if it for pastes. Very cool backside. It is in a very low mileage, maybe NOS condition. Has no signs of use and came in a plastic sleeve. Gave a quick saddle soap rub and a few drops of neetsfoot oil were rubbed in. Gave a quick test drive and has a light, quick draw. A family picture with its vintage brothers

What SnS said, The pattern/cuts on backs I'm pretty sure were to make the leather more flexible and less likely to crease/wrinkle if it got rolled up.

Beautiful strop.

Can't believe your pickers are still finding stuff for you with everything shut down.

Beautiful strop. I have a Christian & Son strop from NSW. The company went out of business in 1950, the year after I was born so it is pretty old and in better condition than I am. It has two leather strips one horse hide and the “finish” side is shell. Best strop I’ve ever used.

Love your strop and the history. Right now this one is being used everday. After a good cleaning with saddle soap and 4 leather treatments this strop is quick and smooth. Totally in love with the performance and feel and totally into the history of the Koken Company.

Tim, I forgot to add, the groved backing is not for paste or stropping on but its for breaking in the leather to make it more supple hence the "broke in" label on the front. The Illinois strop 827 has this russian treated leather as they call it, but its exactly the same thing. Its actually kind of fun to use because that type of backing give a pleasurable zip sound as you use it. As far as it being NOS i would have too agree, even the linnen looks unused, very nice score!
