Another Schick Injector Question

After trying a few injectors I am slowly falling in love with it :001_wub:
I've looked at the different types chart and got a pretty good idea on what's what. My question is on aggressiveness vs smoothness vs popularity. I know it's mostly YMMV but what do you think on the subject? What is your favorite and why?

The only thing that I can think of that detracted from the Schick Injectors beating out the Gillette DEs is the all-brass weightiness. The Schicks feel less substantial, are are just "too easy" to get a good shave with. They shave better than anything else, at least on a first pass, WTG. Since that's the only pass a majority of people include, it should have won the competition, if it had really been about the quality of shave you can get. Other factors entered into the situation, including the much larger advertising budget that Gillette invested.

Personally, I have used a E, G, and I model of Injector, and really can't tell much difference in shaves I get from any of them. The main reason I prefer the I model (mine is a Hydromagic) over the others is the grip -- there is more of it, compared to the other two, with my G-8 in the middle for size. All are the same length, but they gradually increased the thickness, front to back, of the handle.

fifty-something years ago, I had a J-model, with the longer handle, but I haven't seen a clean-looking one similar to mine, since getting back into Traditional shaving, at a price I was willing to pay.

I have really liked every one I have tried- but my overall favorite is an old beat to crap amber handled old style! Don't know what letter designation it is.

I've shaved with Type A to Type N .. the first four versions seem mild, the E is the most aggressive (again, for me) of the non-adjustables, I find that the H on up are too mild for my liking .. but as they cut less hair they are smoother ..

Not sure what the most popular would be, the Type E had the longest production run and is what I recall having in the bathroom when I started up shaving (with an adjustable Gillette, gramps used both). These days, I have an M Adjustable always available, and resort to the E Type once in a while. Except if there's a Schick month, when I run them all ..

Edit: Here's the rundown of the various types http://web.archive.org/web/20071127015759/http://www.safetyrazors.net/schick/schicktech.htm

And some Schick porn .. Type D, from circa 1935

I get great shaves from my Type E and G models, but at times they are not super smooth. For me the Type I has the perfect aggression along with the smooth factor.

I've been using the adjustable Schick since the 70's, but recently picked up a mint Type E which has become my favorite. I'm not sure why the type E shaves as well as it does, but I find it easy to shave close with it and without any irritation.

I like my DEs, I love my SEs, I LUST my objectors, if that makes any sense. Someone on BnB summed it up best " injectors are the sports cars of the shaving world. They are just plain sexy.

Sexy is right! I can't believe it is not more popular, damn shame. I have L3 and I2, love them both. My next model to try should be E type! Thanks all for your input, Looks like I need to edit my signature: WTB Damaskeene SE AND Type E Injector :biggrin1:

For me the E is the best looking, the J1 is my favorite overall due to the long handle which I prefer for Head Shaving & smooth shaves overall, I'd classify this as a Mild Razor.

I dearly love the Schick Injector razor of yesteryear. It is a mysterious shame that they are no longer manufactured. The good news is that they are readily available on ebay at reasonable prices.

I have about 6 of 'em. My #1 favorite (all things considered) would be the model G. Honorable mention would go the models I and the adjustable model M.

They are certainly something special. I enjoy the 2 Es 2 Gs as much as the J1 . On the way is a J yellow handle and the coveted I2 hydromagic which im dying to use. The fact that they are no longer produced makes them that much better to me!

I haven't given up looking for a long-handle J to match one that I had about 1960 or 1961, but I won't pay what seems to be the going rate of $20 for one (my original hadn't had the Hydromagic cleaning lever, but that's the one I'll prefer this time).

I finally got to use my E3 yesterday and man what a nice shave. Aggressiveness is all about angle of attack. With the head flat per instructions it's very gentle but with enough tilt you could peel a potato.

My favorite is my E3, I find it more aggressive than my L3 but just as smooth.

Greetings all. Could/would someone explain what you mean by smooth/smoothness (Above)?

Don't I recall a 3 Stooges clip where Curly was peeling potatos with a Safety (Schick?) razor? :biggrin1: Thanx.

Cheers,

Mark

This thread just made me think, has anyone tried putting a stainless or brass handle on an injector?
They are cheap enough to sacrifice a plastic handle G maybe. Would it be too handle heavy?
Anyone got any tips on removing the handle from a G without doing to much damage.
