What's new

Another Proraso Green reforumated thread

Short and sweet,

I ran out of the first tube of original proraso I ever purchased. I love this stuff. The scent, the performance...all top notch.
Received the new reformulated Proraso tube in green. To me, it smells nothing like the original. It smells sort of musty and....not fresh.
However, the latherability and performance mops the floor with the old stuff in my opinion. I like it a lot as far as performance goes.

What gives with the scent? Maybe my sniffer isn't used to some of the ingredients?

I decided to shave with Proraso green today, and happened to glance at the ingredients. If parabens are still listed, does that mean I have the old formula? I got it from Amazon.com back in July, but it could've been old stock. So I'm unclear about whether I'm using the old formula or the new.

yes. parabens= old

Interesting. So I've got the formula that smells better but isn't quite as good a shave as the newer stuff. Since I'm always more interested in the performance than the smell of my creams, I'm very curious to get some of the new formula.

The red has a very musty note to it also. It lathers fine, but the scent is a turn off. I doubt I will be buying it again.

Does the new Blue Proraso have the same musty smell also?

Goes to show YMMV. The smell of the red really grew on me after a while. I rather like it now. It's said to be a very authentic sandlewood smell.

I'm in the same boat, the red at first smelled kinda rotten, but after using it a few times I do enjoy the scent. I am glad it isn't any stronger though.

I have a sample of the new green and agree about the musty smell. I do find it less noticable when I'm not directly comparing it to the old Proraso, so I probably will buy the new when I run out. I have two unopened barber-size tubes of the old though, so it won't be for a while!

I do like the performance of the new cream, but I wish it smelled as good as the old.

I need to get the old formula...

The new green isn't as strong for me but I will say that isn't about 2:30 pm as I am writing this and my face still feels fresh.

If anyone needs the old formula, abovethetie.com in the vendors section has plenty of the old formula cream; as well as the old green and white soap.

For Melbourne members Mediterranean Wholesalers on Sydney Rd are still carrying stock of the old formula soap/creams for around 5-7 bucks a pop. Some of the new green in as well. No red or blue.

I agree that the new Green doesn't smell all that fantastic, but I really can't smell it much once it's lathered up. To me it just smells sort of...medicinal--sort of like what you'd expect shaving cream to smell like if it didn't have some kind of fancy scent. The scent doesn't bother me at all. My sniffer is so weak I usually can't even smell it when it's lathered up.

It out performs pretty much anything I've ever used though. It's also one of the few soaps/creams that doesn't irritate my skin. In fact, it treats my skin really well.

Decided to use the new Raso Green cream tonight after a nice long hot tub then shower; it's been months since I took delivery and I've been using the old formula gear.

Well, I have to agree with a lot of above; the old scent was pretty much THE fave shave scent for me (apart from AdP). But the performance of the new cream, faced with a CH 1: slick, smooth and ridiculously easy to lather.

i have a few tubs of the old green that i'll be returning today to SDM here in Cad. i picked them up before they went OOS, just to make sure i wasn't missing out on the next "must have old forumla soap", but it seems the general concensus is that new is better performer.

and if the old smells good to you guys, we have different tastes. the old smells medicinal and mentholy to me, which is not a pleasant scent when i have so many others that i fully enjoy and also perform well.

I am one who dislikes the new scent enough that I won't be buying Proraso again. I have stocked up on enough Old formula to last me a few years and when it's gone I have other favorites in my rotation that can step up. After purchasing a tub of the new formula I disliked it enough that I traded it off for another old formula tub and I even piffed a tube of the red which has that same irritating musty base-note. As irritating as it is, I am beginning to get used to these manufacturers making boneheaded reformulation and product discontinuation decisions.
