What's new

Another potential AD..

Hi guys! Looks like I'll be joining the ranks in the nib! I just ordered my first fountain pen in years - a Lamy Logo fine nib with a few different inks. I'd be considering one for a while then found out a friend of mine uses a Lamy, which I tried and then had to buy one. I'm a completely obsessed cook but my biggest problem is never taking any notes on what I make so hopefully this will finally encourage me to write my recipe book

I've always been fond of 'fancy' handwriting (I began teaching myself cursive around age 7 or 8 and messed around with calligraphy for a while) so it'll be nice to get back to hand-writing things instead of soullessly hammering away at a keyboard. I'll post some showoff pics when it arrives! Any recommendations for a book to go with it? I'd like something with faint lines, preferably leather bound and a good size (A4) - something that will last for years to come. I've ordered a little moleskine notebook for the time being so I can document my endless quest for baking the perfect loaf of bread

Anyhow, better get back to work!
Dave

Now half as wise
Doesn't sound like a "potential" AD to me. Sounds as if you are already hooked! If you've played around with calligraphy before, then you owe it to yourself to get an itaalic nib. Adds an extra touch to everyday writing.

You could at least wait for my other stuff to arrive before encouraging me to buy more

What is this word "potential"? I see it bandied about along with phrases such as"should I buy this or that" "do I have enough of___" "how many is to much":biggrin1:

Welcome to the Nib, Dave. Don't fight it, resistance is futile!
As far as paper, are you looking for a journal, or just some decent paper to use with your new Lamy? I really like Rhodia paper, especially the dot pads! I know some like the Dot Webbies as journals, but I have an Exacompta Basic Journal that I like very much!

I once saw Jim post, "too much is just right," or something to that effect.

Another vote for an italic nib, changes the way a pen writes completely.
I have this one from the Goulets and it performs really well.

I see that you are in the UK, you will need to get some more inks, pens, paper, etc.
(Enabler alert!!!) That way the cost of postage is spread across multiple items and therefore cheaper

I do like the sound of an italic nib, and they are quite cheap.... *mutters something about enablers* :001_tt2: I'll see how this writes when it arrives but that nib is inevitable!

Ouch's favourite advice is "a full bottle IS a sample" or some such thing. Maybe it was about a beng being a sample.

Italics are great. I have a 1.5 mm on my Studio. It is sometimes a bit big, but I am going to rectify that with a 1.1 mm. Lamy nibs are $10 a pop, and easily swapped.

Welcome to the Nib! This is a fun hobby and that recipe book should churn out fairly quick if you choose to do it, writing with a FP is fun, easy and less tiring on the hand. You will want to keep on writing and writing and writing...

I'm convinced. Italic nib ordered! I couldn't afford not to for £4.50 really, now if only the postal service would hurry up..
