What's new

Another Identification Thread

I bought these in the wild yesterday and am having some identification issues, I have no idea about the SE razor (never used one, just bought it because it only cost $3.50. It was suggested that the gold OC is possibly an Aristocrat Deluxe. Finally, the 4-piece travel razor in the middle, I know its a gillette, but thats about it... I don't see any markings or date codes other than the gillette diamond. They're all user grade, and I'm not looking for an appraisal, just wondering if I got a good deal. I'll look up any value information once I figure out what they are exactly. Thanks in advance gentleman! I know I'm in the right place.

Top one is a GEM Micromatic-single edge razor from 30 to 40's era. The middle is a travel razor that should come apart in 3 or 4 pieces. The bottom last one is a NEW Common Bar Handle from the 30's era.

Thanks Sir! I appreciate the information. I used the travel razor this morning, and it wasn't too bad. I haven't used a DE in nearly a year, I've been using straights exclusively.

The gold-ish razor is a common bar-handle NEW, with a short comb I think. The handle looks reddish so I infer that most of the gold is gone, exposing the brass. Even so it should shave very well.

The travel razor looks like an Old Type. I think Achim has an example with a similar handle. Note that yours may not be 1929: Achim had an original blade to work from. But I think it would have to be in the range of 1921-29.

So are you coming back to the DE for good or it's just a Temp thing?

It is kinda hard to tell if its short or long from that angle.......looks short.

I'm pretty sure its just a temp thing. Sometimes its just nice to have a little change though. It wasn't quite as close as my straight, but my technique probably isn't what it used to be either lol

Mine also came with the box, but it doesn't have the label on the top. Came with a black and red wrapped gillette blade though.

Rest in Peace
The blades on your toolbox are most likely for scraping paint, etc. and not suitable for shaving. Check online for Gem PTFE (coated) blades for starters which are okay for shaving as well as Gem Blue Stars. There are others but I have good experience with these two. There is an excellent thread on B&B. Go to "Single Edge Razors" forum and find "Single Edge Blade Guide" thread. Right now it's on the 4th page by Hoosier Trooper. Thorough information there. Mike
