Another German Arrival

My Le Grelot historical arrived this afternoon from Martin and I couldn't be happier! I opted for the black scales because since I started honing I've become a real fan of shoulderless blades. It came well packaged and Martin even threw in a small can of balistoil and pack of scobby-do gummy bears! Add that to the incredibly sharp yet oh so civilized edge that he put on the razor and what more could you ask for. Oh, and the price was right too, $148 USD delivered to my door in ten days. The scales are plastic but they are nice and thick and overall balance is good. As far as how it shaves, smooth as silk and sharp as a shrews tongue. The picture really doesn't do this razor justice but it's about all I can do with my ancient camera.

Shaman,

I have the version with the shoulder. It is one of the only two razors I currently have in rotation and is fantastic.

You should get the white scale version (with shoulder) and compare. I'd like to know what you think. :001_smile

Also, You won't regret owning both versions  and the shouldered version is apparently getting scarce as Martin seems to be running low (no more black handles).

+1. I too have the version with shoulder...and almost ordered the shoulder-less one today! Yes please! How do they compare? Is it truly lighter in weight and is it perceptible when shaving? TIA

I can't tell that it is any lighter than any of my comparable 6/8s, it is a pretty substantial piece of steel. I hope the money gets right soon for me to get one of the white scaled blades before they are gone. The shave is great! It doesn't have that bite some of my pre-honed razors have had, I asked Martin about his honing progression and apparently he does not use pastes and he finishes on a 10k.
