What's new

Another carrying the pen properly thread.

I have looked through posts and searches and not found an answer to a question I have. Is it possible to keep a pen in a pants pocket? or should I not attempt it? I hardly wear shirts or jackets with breast pockets (ok I never do since I do not own any). So I usually keep my pens in my pants pocket. I know if it breaks in my pocket I'll have ink everywhere but I have yet to break any pen in my pants pocket.

It might possibly depend on the pen. Kawecko sports, and such fit in a pocket nicely. I would also have zero problem carrying my TWSBI mini either. smaller pens carry better but you should experiment to see what works best. It's possible bigger pens would work as well.

I have one of those single-pen zipper cases. Minimizes my anxiety when carrying in a pants pocket.

Your Lamy should be fine but it isn't the most optimal of situations... I do it with my pens from time to time, just carefull not the put anything heavy there

Also it will usually bounce around and lay sideways when you sit down, you may get a drop into the cap from time to time... but then maybe not lol try it your probably going to be maybe fine

Lamys are used by students who keep them in backpacks and messenger bags, your pocket is going to be nicer then that on the pen

The clip will eventually get bent and damage to a Safari cap usually means it loses its grip and won't stay put. Not a good idea, pick up a little Kaweco or start wearing some shirts with pockets. :wink2:

I've carried a fountain pen or two in my front pants pocket every work day for years. Fortunately, I've never had a problem. Today, it was a TWSBI Mini and a vintage Sheaffer.

I'm not going to put my pens into a rear pants pocket at all. In a front pocket, I have carried them in a pencil case, which gives them a bit of extra protection, and keeps them oriented along the length of the pocket instead of getting twisted sideways. FWIW, this is the kind of pencil case I have, but it was cheaper when I got it; nothing wrong with it but perhaps something else might be even better. I've pretty much stopped using it, anyway, as even most of my T-shirts have pockets, and it's easier to get to a pen in a shirt pocket. I wouldn't carry a fountain pen in a pants pocket without a case, and the nicer the pen is, the more I wouldn't do it. Still, maybe that's over-cautious. If it has worked for you for a long time, then you must be doing it right.

I will experiment with it I think. I'll make sure I am not doing anything strenuous like a lot of bending to pick up things. Those single pen cases seem like a good idea I may need to find me one. If I did have an expensive pen, no I would not just put it in my pants pocket, heck I probably wouldn't let it leave my room.

I don't know what it is but I have never liked tshirts with pockets in them. So I never got one, I think my next round of tshirt buying I will pick up a few with pockets. Man you guys are a great fountain of knowledge pen intended.:tongue_sm

If you have a shirt or polo with buttons but no pocket, you can clip the pen on an angle between the buttons. I've never had a leak doing that.

Man who would have known that a simple pen can be a prelude to a new wardrobe. I was right this pen thing I have is going to be costly.

doesnt have to be, just hit up the haberdashery, those guys can help you get a whole new wardrobe without spending to much money

Just... *don't* clip a screw-cap pen to your pants pocket. Go ahead and ask me how I know...

(luckily, the pants were black. But my thigh-- they were cargo pants-- was very interesting for a while. It was a newly-filled eyedropper...)

By the way, has anyone mentioned how vastly superior Japanese kitchen knives are to whatever you've been using and have been perfectly satisfied with up until now?
