Animal hair

I know there are Boar and Badger hair brushes, but are there any other animal hair brushes?

If yes, what kinds have you heard of/used?

If no, why not?

I'm assuming that over the years, Boar and Badger have been found to be the best (most absorbent/toughest/longest lasting ect.) But if anyone has any answers or opinions, I'd like to hear them.

I think maybe a nice soft Bunny hair would feel nice (maybe a bit too soft). or maybe a Lion hair brush... or the crown jewel of them all....

You can find Horse Hair from time to time as well as synthetics. I'm sure there are others I'm forgetting at the moment.

As Rob says, horse hair is also a popular type.

I am sure many have been tried. It has to hold water, be stiff enough to lather and be soft enough to rub all over the face. Pretty tall order for hair!

I believe as a shaving brush maker, you would choose a hair that has the qualities mentioned above and is more than abundant. Rabbit hair, while soft would probably be way to floppy.:lol::lol:

I'm looking for a brush with Wooly Mammoth hair bristles, and a Mammoth bone handle. Haven't found one in several weeks of searching on the bay. I don't want a handle made of Mammoth ivory, as it may cause poaching of Mammoths.

We'd like to have a variety of animal hair brushes, but PETA will only allow us to use hair from badgers and boars. Apparently PETA management persons have been bitten by those mean beasts at some time.

We're gonna need a larger pan

Now you've got me thinking about snow leopard hair...and those damn white lions...always did take a fancy to their fur...

Badgers are mean as hell but have fantastic hair for brushes.I wonder how well wolverine hair would work?

I don't think so.
If nasty disposition was all it took to make a good brush, I'd have shaved the ex's head long ago.

I bet you it has a lot to do with hair length. Badgers probably have good quality hair, AND a perfect hair length.

I have a friend that shoots anything that moves in the High Sierras.

Let's find a small time brush producer and pitch in some moola. Within no time we could cook up Bear, Elk, Coyote, Panther, Squirrel brushes just for kicks...

So what if they don't work. Wouldn't you be proud to rub bear fur around on your face?
