What's new

And away I go...

I'm looking for a new brush. I’ve only ever used AOS brushes and the one that I’ve been using has lost it’s bounce and doesn’t retain water (or much lather either) So I’m off to find a new brush.

A couple of questions:

Do most people use the same brush every day or do you have a couple that you rotate?

I don’t know if it’s normal for a brush to loose it’s bounce and ability to retain water or if AOS brushes are just not up to par.

What’s your recommendation for a brush? I like something firm that exfoliates a little while it gets the hairs up. Price isn’t too much of an issue as long as it’ll last.

Lastly… maybe my AOS brush is ‘broken’ because of user error. I typically mash the brush into my Arlington Soap to try to fill it nicely with soap and then I add some cream and mix it all up in my scuttle.

Thanks in advance.

There's no reason not to use 1 brush every day, but I think that most here would say they rotate.

IF I had to go down to 1 brush, it would be my Rooney (1/2 Super). And I would be (and am) a very happy man.

Any Rooney'll do (Super, at least), though, from what I can tell.

An AOS brush (unless it's the tiny one that comes in the $25 kit) should last for years before needing to be replaced but you do need to clean it regularly to ensure good performance. Once the bristles start getting gummed up with residue the lather will suffer.

Check the wiki, there's a bunch of info on brush cleaning.

I'm finding with the tallow soaps that the fan shaped brushes like a Simpson Chubby are the best for me. Lots of density so I can scrub the soap during the loading phase and intense lather generation once transferred to a mixing mug.

I use the same brush everyday, rinse it thoroughly at the end, squeeze the majority of the water out, flick out the last drops and dry the tips gently on a clean towel. Then I hang it on a stand with the brush tips down and make sure it drys on a shelf in my office and *not* in the bathroom.

I clean it at least monthly with Borax powder.

I have two brushes a bk4, and a kim son brush. They are both quite nice work well on soaps and creams.

have you tried cleaning it? That should make it lather properly again.

If you can afford the $150ish of what the LE09 should be, thats the brush you want.
