What's new

an unusual traveler DE set

I wonder if this is a totally custom razor or if the manufacturer simply neglected to include the maker's mark. No telltale markings of any kind, except for the work on the head. A very hefty solid handle with this long tooth open comb design. Unlikely from the US, possibly German, likely from the 1930s because of the open comb design. The leather traveling case is like glove leather, smooth, supple, looks like new. That makes me think it would be from the early 1950s. All I know is that it is a very attractive razor and I wanted to share it with connoisseurs of razors and other finely made tools.

Anyone who has an idea of where this was made, when, and by whom -- post your ideas here.

Fits perfectly in this handy leather case.

I suppose the design might have been hammered into the head, one piece at a time.

A beautiful razor that I'll use tomorrow & post my experiences and thoughts about. But it sure looks like a one-of-a-kind custom job, and I'm happy to have it for now.

Looks like chisel engraving, like would be done on a firearm. If you have a loop you can look at the swirls and see if you can see short cuts that would be made by striking a chisel with a hammer. If I were to venture a guess I would say maybe around a firearms engraving area such as Liege Belgium or Suhl Germany but this would be just a guess based on the engraving.

Interesting that such an ornately engraved head would be paired with such a spare, utilitarian handle.

Ah, but that handle is actually a very attractive, shiny, hefty piece of metal. Very good feeling and together with the head, makes an excellent razor/tool.
