Am I lathering wrong?

Tell me what's wrong guys, or if I'm doing anything wrong at all. Fill up a bowl full of hot water, and dunk my brush into it before getting in the shower. I also put a teeny bit of water on top of my tabac soap to soften while I'm in the shower. HOT water in the shower to get my whiskers nice and soft. When I get out, I don't dry off my face - keep it nice and wet.

Back at the sink, I gently wring the water out of my badger brush. Pour the leftover water from the soap (just a couple of drops) into the mixing bowl, and then rotate the brush in a circular motion over the soap while simultaneously twisting it, until it drags over the soap with a notable resistance.

Add a few more drops of water to my mixing bowl, and then I take to generating my lather. This takes me only about 30 seconds. It's rich, thick, and has no bubbles. The problem is that, once I take the brush to my face, there isn't all that much lather left in the bowl. Most of it stays stuck to my brush!

I thinking this might be a problem with the relative sizes of my brush/bowl? The lather is thick with few bubbles and it feels really good, so I don't think I am having trouble there. Should I get a smaller brush? Bigger bowl? Or should I just stop whining?

That's where you want the lather, in your brush...that way you can get it on your face. You're doing it right. There won't be gobs and gobs left in the bowl. The bowl merely provides a surface for your brush to create a friction against and create lather. You can use a bowl, or your face. Essentially, with any method you choose, you end up using your face. But, there's not a lot left in the bowl. And, if you're using a bowl only big enough to house your soap puck, you'll notice even less.

Personally, I face lather and have fine results without using a bowl so, of course, my question of you is "Why do you want lather in the bowl when you need to have it in the brush in order to apply it?"

If I want to keep the lather which is left in the brush warm for subsequent passes, I put the brush in a scuttle between passes but, again, I really want any left over lather to stay in the brush not in the scuttle.

Regards,
Tom

If you are running out of lather to do all your passes, you can either build some more or use more product to start with.
