What's new

Am I just crazy?

After a shave, I completely tear down my Muhle R89 and clean it with antibacterial soap and my brush to make sure that I got all the oils, soap, cream etc... Then lay it out on a dry towel to dry, polish off all the waterspots and hit it with microfiber cloth and some oil, wipe off the blade and reassemble before I hang it on the stand. :blushing: Is this overkill? SWMBO thinks I'm nuts...

What do you guys do?

I just give it a rinse after each shave and give it a scrub with some soap after I change out a blade then rinse it off and dry it.

I do the same except the antibacterial stuff and unfortunately there is no SWNBO around to call me names. :) Besides, I oil the threads occasionally. :)

No, you're not.

i clean my razor every time i shave with it. Dry it and polish it up for the next time. If it's a 3 piece, i take it apart and clean and dry all the parts.

Why not? you paid good money for it. You want it to last.

i don't do the whole antibacterial thing though. Don't think it needs it imo. I also don't wipe off the blade (makes it dull IIRC), some blades say not to on the blade itself.

I think you are.
Guys back in the day never did that.
I rinse the razor with the blade in, shake it, and set it by the side of the sink. When everything else is cleaned up, I dry the razor with a towel. I also store my razors outside of the bathroom.

Wouldn't say you're crazy. It does seem a bit extreme, but hey if that's what makes you happy. Personally I rinse it out and let it dry. Every once in a while I'll clean it with warm, soapy water.

Seems a bit much for me, but whatever makes you happy and if it doesn't inconvenience you, then keep at it! As long as you enjoy what you do.

It's your hobby, so do what you like. After I shave at night, I break down the razor, rinse the parts under running water (no soap), and dry it off. When I shave in the morning, I rinse the razor without taking it apart, give it a pat or two (steering clear of the blade), and run.

Since you asked, it's overkill. But if it gives you satisfaction, I don't see any harm in it.

As far as the antibacterial soap, my personal opinion is that you're just fine using regular dish soap and water.

Try that routine while sharing the bathroom with three women ... I am already glad when I get an undisturbed shave lol

No, I don't clean my R89 that thoroughly. I loosen the handle just a bit, rinse the razor and blade, tighten the handle again, shake off and dry. The only time when I disassemble the razor is when changing the blade. I give the various parts a quick rub and rinse then.

That seems a tad much but it's your razor so do what you like. Your wife will think you're nuts anyways so it's just a little more gas on the fire lol.

Personally, I don't have enough time for all of that. I just give it a rinse. I need my razor to shave great. It doesn't have to look brand new after each shave.

Is your name Sheldon? <G> just kidding. Yeah-does seem a little overkill to me too. I just rinse off after shaving and gently wipe outside surfaces dry. Will give it a good cleaning when I change blades or switch to another razor in rotation if razor is starting to show buildup of soap gunk. I feel that excessive cleaning puts excessive wear on the plating and will wear it down faster than from just normal use. But, you could just rinse it off and give it a quick dip in an antibacterial like Barbacide if that makes you feel better. All and all though, its your tool and you can do whatever you want with it. Just enjoy the great shaves with your super clean razor. :thumbup1:

Nope, I did something similar but instead if wiping blade I just washed it off.

I keep a tub of isopropyl to dip the razor in. It works great

That's a bit of a mission!

I rinse the razor with blade in under the tap, shake it a couple of times, then put in on the stand.

the men in the white coats will be calling for you {lol}

Haha thanks guys. There are some funny replies in here, but ok, i am crazy. I'm going to dial it down a little and maybe perform this ritual only at blade changes. However, I feel like I'm going to start going through more blades in the near future haha ;)
