Alvarez Gomez Barberia. New cream from Spain

Alvarez Gomez is one of the oldest perfumeries in Spain, founded in 1896. Many of you will be familiar with their Agua de Colonia Concentrada, their most popular product and a classic household name in Spain.

Last year they launched a new line of products called “Barberia” (Barbershop). The line was to include a shaving soap and cream. Finally they have decided not to launch the soap but the shaving cream was launched in june.

Here you have the link to the Alvarez Gomez web http://www.alvarezgomez.com/tienda/productos/alvarez-gomez-barberia/crema-de-afeitar-200-ml.html

I’m not sure if they ship internationally, but the cream is also available from www.giftsandcare.com, which may offer a better terms for those of you outside Spain.

The product is, in my opinion, top of the line. Alvarez Gomez has not offered a bad product in more than 100 years and they have certainly nailed it with this one.

It is a very thick cream, almost a croap…….almost, but not quite. It also needs a lot of water to lather. Once you set it going, it lathers great and gives a comfortable shave, nice scent and outstanding skin care. The scent, which is the same for the whole Barberia line, is similar to the Agua Concentrada (lemon, lavender and Eucaliptus) but with a potent wooden undernote that makes it more masculine and makes it last longer. A great scent in my opinion.

In Spanish shaving forums, the reviews and opinions about this cream have been extremely positive.
The price is 16 euros for a 200 ml tub, which is not cheap, but certainly not crazy for a quality product.

This is the ingredient list, in case you are interested
INGREDIENTS: AQUA (WATER) STEARIC ACID, GLYCERIN, COCOS NUCIFERA OIL, POTASSIUM HYDROXIDE, OCTYLDODECANOL, PARFUM (FRAGRANCE) SODIUM HYDROXIDE, ROSA CANINA FRUIT OIL, ARGANIA SPINOSA OIL, PHENOXYETHANOL, TETRASODIUM EDTA, ETHYLHEXYLGLYCERIN, GERNAIOL, LIMONENE, LINALOOL, ALPHA ISOMETHYL IONONE

maybe I am officially off in super acquisition mode, but after reading the history of this company and their commitment to quality ingredients, etc.... I have a tub on it's way from Gifts and Care as I type this. someone lock my bank accounts up..... I am in overdrive mode lately..... and I don't think I am done. :)

I can give feedback if you want it ... I got this same cream too and found it requires more than the usually amount of cream to make a thick, stable lather (maybe twice what I use with TOBS or T&H) and I did find it very drying on my skin.
