Alternetive to alum

doctordial

my brain goes "thonk"
I saw a video where guy that wad shaving said use an alum block to close your pores after shaving. Is there anytjing else that could be used to close pores agyer shaving. I usually use witch hazel and then follow with a fragrant aftershave balm, Baxter of California aftershave balm, or a homemade aftershave balm with tea tree oil and grapefruit eo.

A good after shave should be enough. I don't know anything about closing the pores after a shave, but I do know that my skin feels better when I apply a good aftershave balm, after rinsing my face with cold water.

In the past (80's and 90's) I used heavily alcohol based aftershaves. I dislike those now.

From what I recall pores don't actually open and close. What, specifically, are you looking to achieve? What problem are you trying to address? What's lacking with your current regimen? I use alum for razor burn and small cuts that don't require styptic.

What you are doing is fine. The point is just to use an antiseptic on your skin after you shave. You can use alcohol, witch hazel, alum and even cold water works somewhat as an anti-inflammatory.

I use it all just because it feels good and for the retro vide (alum, witch hazel, after-shave and then balm).
