Allen Edmonds CORDOVAN MACNEIL

The double sole is classically part of the longwing, and I think it looks great. It's a heavier looking shoe, and I always thought single soles looked a little thin on them.

Choosing cordovan over calf is really a personal preference. The extra cost is really due to the fact that you can get a single pair of shoes from a horse, and I believe over 5 pairs from a calf. The upkeep is a little different, and they will wear differently over time. Many people like cordovan due to its durability, the ease of getting a nice glow, and the fact that it tends to not crease like calf does. If you look at an old pair of cordovan shoes, they tend to create a softer wrinkle instead of a hard crease. Either way, with care and AE's recrafting services, you can probably get some decades out of either material.

I couldnt have said it better myself.

These are actually the shoes I'm wearing today. I have 8 pairs of Allen Edmonds and this isn't my fav Macneil. I have a pair of the regular black and a pair of the walnut grain. The corovan's aren't as comfortable and tend to crease more than the others. I def get more compliments with the cordovan, however its not my fav.

+10 on this model. I, too, have numerous AEs and my favorite of them all (and I do love them all) is the Burgundy Shell Cordovan MacNeil. These have become my go-to dress shoe, have a great feel, wear like iron and I love the AE cordovan series sole. Awesomeness.

I love the look of these shoes. Reminds me of the model of Dacks that are still my best shoes. I may buy these exact shoes. I have to ask this question to folk who know. I've always had difficulties with non-black shoes. I can get by with clear polish for a while but eventually you get a few scratches and have to try to match the colour. How do you find the right colour?

I have a pair that's probably 15-18 years old. I rotate shoes a lot, so they still look and feel good. I prefer the double soles as I stand a lot so that adds a lot to the comfort.

Just pick up a tin of Kiwi in cordovan, or burgundy color, or Allen Edmonds makes a cream in burgundy cordovan.

Forgot to mention - these are my first Shell Cordovan shoes, and NOW I know why I will spend the extra - the leather has a unique feel and are supple yet stout. I find them even more supportive after a long day than any other.

Bunch of enablers just cost me another $700.....

BTW: Just wanted to mention that I did not buy the Cordovan... I ended up buying TWO pair of shoes and a belt...

I picked up a pair of Yumas for $99 and their single monk strap for $139 a while back. guess it just helps to look at the right time, because I definitely lucked into them.

Just left the AE store on Madison Avenue NYC. Thank you all the beauties are now mine. $700 (tax), of pure value. Can wait to wear them on Sunday at Masonic event. Good to hear the Madison Ave store is good. The one on 6th Ave was staffed with people unwilling to help.

So was 44th street poor service. Surprised that that store has such bad service. Stop in and ask fur Sergio on Madison. He should remember me beside the two pair my friend and I got I dropped two pairs for re crafting.

I'm a big fan of Allen Edmonds and have over 10 pair. I was interested in the McNeil Cordovan in burgundy. Any suggestions on the double thick sole? I can use some advice is the cordovan worth he extra price. See link below

I love it! I'm 30 and just go my first "adult" shoes this year. The first was a pair of black calf Park Aves (birthday gift from wife), and over the next two weeks I bought was a pair of Daltons (Choc Brown Calf) and the Shell Cordovan MacNeil. The MacNeil is *hands down* my fav shoe! The photos online don't do it justice in terms of dimensions and looks. The double oak sole has never caused any discomfort or walking issues. In fact I think for this case it adds to the amazing versatility of the shoe. I can confidently wear these with the brown suit, navy anything, and every shade of grey I own. Topping that, I can pair them with nice jeans to mid-nice jeans and the still look phenomenal. The double oak adds a sole's worth of height but the sole cut combined with the last they are made on gives the show a slighly wider appearance. IMHO this is important because otherwise if they were too narrow it would just look mismatched, no matter how nice the shoe. It would be like wearing black park avenues with a standard width jean leg.

The color and fit of the shoe make this my absolute most versatile shoe! Don't let the price scare you. You'll have them forever. Shell care is different. I can pretty much parrot what the shoe boards say about Shell cordovan; Excellent looking waves, no fine-line creasing, easy polishing - just buff with its own leached oils. etc etc. The one thing I'll say is make sure you use polish made for cordovan, not shell. The fiber density of shell is much different so it won't react to a standard shoe cream. The polish you do get, use *very* sparingly! I was too lose with my definition of "light amount" of polish. It didn't hurt but man it took forever to polish the shoes to have a consistent, even tone. Depending on your likes for the oxblood color you can impact the tones/hues by letting them set in the sunlight for a few hours a day. You can "Ask Andy" about that topic though.

Who would have thought, a shoe with just a single slap of leather and bit of cork for the insole could be so comfortable and last so long! It's like the worlds best secret that's drowned out into the shadows by highly marketed sneaker companies.
