What's new

All you glycerin users

I am wanting to try adding glycerin to my lather but I am at a loss on where you all are getting it. I read a post saying some people are getting it at wal-mart. I have looked in both my local wal-mart and CVS can anyone tell me where or with what else it is located. I am having absolutely no luck finding it. Thanks in advance

i pick up vdh glycerin at fredmeyers.... it's really hit and miss sometimes i see it at one store and then a week later they're only carrying the deluxe. right now i get vdh deluxe at riteaid/walgreen and vdh glycerin fred meyers $1.69 puck. btw i microwave my deluxe/glyc for a nice mix... Wait a sec are you talking about actual glycerin or glycerin puck???

Sorry that post was a bit confusing, I am looking for plain liquid glycerin to add not the VDH glycerin soap Sorry for the confusing post :blushing:

Yeah, I am having the same issue honestly. I saw it at a health food store and it was very expensive for a small amount... would have driven my cost per shave WAY up

I find it in the Pharmacy section of Wal Mart near the witch hazel. 6 oz for $3.

I have already shaved for the night. So is it sad that I am actually contemplating making a wal-mart run @ 10:30 to see if I mine carries it!?!?!?!?

Thanks for the info! That is what I am looking for.

ditto on where to get it at Walmart. At my Target, it is behind the Pharmacy counter, just ask the Pharmacy staff.

I'll walk up with a crooked grin and shadily ask for their 'stash' of behind the counter glycerine, and when they give it to me I will dart my head left and right and cloak the bottle in my jacket!

I was actually having the same issues with finding a bottle of glycerin. After looking at Wal Mart, Walgreens, CVS, etc. a girl at Walgreens suggested going to a hobby shop. You know like Hobby Lobby and those places that sell all kinds of random crap for people to craft and decorate their houses with. A lot of these shops sell soap making kits and just so happen to have bottles of glycerin right next to the soap making kits...go figure! That's where I found mine. Good Luck!

Most pharmacies should carry it..I got mine at RiteAid. 6 oz. for $5 or something like that. Worse case, you can pick up online. Just make sure it's USP grade and pure (>99.5%). Impure Glycerin still has nitric and sulfuric acid in it (among other stuff)...your skin will not like it:bored:

Try corn syrup. No really, it's less expensive, more widely available, and works very nicely.

UGH. Not to rag on you, dude, but the idea of putting sticky corn syrup on my skin is not my idea of a good time. There's way too much sugar in it. Glycerin is not tacky, just viscous. Also, glycerin USP is not exactly expensive.

I agree, I wouldn't want to put goo on my face either. But technically, Glycerin is also considered a carbohydrate :001_cool:

My local Walgreens and CVS stores have dropped it, but I found it at a Woodman's discount grocery for under $3 for six ounces. Yep, near the witch hazel and other skin-care products.

(But after stirring it into melted shaving soap and letting it harden, the soap became frothy rather than creamy during shaving. I ruined a good puck, but I'm not sure if it was the glycerin or the melting/cooling process that was to blame.)

Better luck to you.
