With all the talk about wallets here.... and since I've got a case of the CBFs at work this morning , thought I'd do a quick review of the All-Ett Executive "World's Thinnest Wallet"
Quite a few years ago I went to a Bowen therapist because of some lower back pain. She looked at my wallet when I took it out of my back pocket and started "tut tutting" .
Sitting on the humungously stacked wallet in my back pocket was certainly not helping my lower back. Think about it, you're sitting with the right buttock 2 inches higher than your left !!
Since then I started carrying my wallet in my hand, putting it in my jacket pocket , in my satchel , top shirt pocket or taking it out of my pocket when I sat down. This of course resulted in horrible bulges in my pockets or often me leaving my wallet in strange places
That's when I came across the All-Ett wallets. I originally started with the Original, it's completely made of parachute material. It was good but the material crackled a lot and didn't look very professional. I then ordered a leather executive and that's what I've been carrying for the last few years.
So what's the trick ? It's a bifold wallet with nice discrete branding.
Inside is 4 rows of pockets, you "stack " your cards. The insides are made of parachute material, keeping the thickness down.
You can fit up to 5 cards into each pocket, so up to 20 cards in the wallet. There's no additional material between each card like a traditional wallet again helping to keep the wallet thinner.
The "trick" is to put your most used cards on the top and the bottom of the stack. That way you can easily grab the card you want without having to take out all the cards from the pocket and "shuffle" through them.
There's a short pocket for currency and then a bigger pocket that runs all the way down the wallet for receipts and larger pieces of paper.
So what's in the wallet today ? 19 cards, $10, about 10 receipts, a book of stamps, couple of business cards........
So you can see how much is in the wallet and guess how big a standard bifold wallet would be ( though you probably couldn't fit 19 cards in anyway ). Here's the thickness against a Fisher Bullet of the stack of cards by themselves and the wallet when it's "fully loaded"
All up a great wallet. My last one lasted me about two years before one of the pockets ripped and this one's been on the go for about 6 months.
However, there in lies the "issue" with the All-Ett. The parachute material while being the selling point ( to keep the wallet thin ) is also ( to me ) a weak point as it's just not durable enough.
Whether it's because I remove/insert the cards too much or use the wallet too much I'm not sure. I've seen people say they've had the same All-Ett for 5-10 years........
If you look at the pictures above you'll see that there's loose threads after about 6 months of use and in the top left corner, the material is starting to rip off the stitching.
I also have a Leather Sports which I use when I go out and just want some cash, drivers license and a couple of credit cards. Holds up to 10 cards and easily slips into either your back or front pocket without you even knowing it's there. It won't fall out by mistake either in case you've had a few too many beverages
Even though I've got these thin wallets, I still never put the wallet in my back pocket anymore except at a pinch when I really have to. Certainly more comfortable than a standard wallet. They still normally live in my jacket pocket or top shirt pocket , or in the leg pocket in cargos.
I've got a Saddleback Bifold Large on it's way. Card storage is based on the same principle but obviously the untreated leather's going to add some bulk. I'll post a review of that one once it arrives.
All in all a great line of wallets. Certainly keeps the size down.
Hope this helps
