Alcohol on pipe stems?

After reading a little about pipe cleaning after use, I decided to dip a few pipe cleaners in rubbing alcohol and run them through my pipe. It was cold, so I pulled them stem off, and the inside parts a good wipe down with the alcohol soaked cleaner. A few drops got on the black stem, so I thought I'd give it a wipe too. Seconds later, as I was wiping off the stem, I noticed to my horror that it'd changed colors a little, it's now a dull black instead of shiny like it was before. Have I done something horrible here, or is there some way to bring back the shine?

I was told that this could happen and to be wary of alcohol on the outside of a pipe but I believe that all you did was to un-polish it and i have seen different compounds for polishing pipe stems out there that would probably work to bring it back but I'm sure someone with more experience will be along shortly.

I grabbed a little bottle of Obsidian oil, and that stuff is awesome.. the tiniest little dab works wonders, and I can see one bottle lasting years.
