Is it always benzyl alcohol? Some bottles just read "alcohol"...

When I see alcohol or SDA, without any qualifiers, I assume ethyl alcohol.
EtOH, always unless it specifies some other alcohol like isopropyl. Denaturated alcohol (aka SD) is ethanol.
Sometimes I wonder if my Crown Royal Whiskey is really just bay rum. 
Makes me wonder, if so, would you start shaving with Crown or drinking your Bay Rum?
