Air Fryer as a bean roaster?

I googled something the other day about bean roasting and a article about using an air fryer as a roaster came up. Somehow it’s just not something that I have ever thought about or would do. I know ours is non-stick but I think coffee beans no matter how much you clean would leave a residue. As much as I like coffee, chicken flavored like coffee just doesn’t sound good.

It's not a silly idea on the face of it. Depending on whether you have a rotisserie basket for doing things like fries, it could work. Would need one with small holes. Kinda low temp, though, it seems to me. Our Instant Pot vortex oven goes up to 400F and I generally run it at 375. The air popper I use to roast coffee likely gets hotter than that, but I've never measured.

I imagine that you'd get a pretty impressive amount of smoke out of it. :) At least with the air popper I can roast under the oven hood and send all the smoke outside.

Looking at ours, if I were to use it for that I could probably do a whole pound of green coffee in one go. The basket has a stir bar inside, so it would effectively tumble and mix the beans as they were roasting.

O.H.
