Aftershaves for younger faces?

Hey guys, I'm in my early 20's and I have a bit of a dilemma...

The girlfriend (as well as some of my other friends) don't quite appreciate me smelling like an old man all the time. I can't help it, I love my AV, OS, Pinaud, etc. etc. The only ones I own that the girlfriend really thinks are even alright are AV Ice Sport and D.R. Harris Marlborough. We both love woodsy scents like sandalwood and I love the smell of camp fire left on my clothes and hair (think wonder pine tar soap kind of).

So, regardless of whether they are woodsy or not, I need some suggestions for some "younger" AS scents.

One option is to use Witch Hazel and the EDT of your choice afterwords. I don't find Speick to have an old man smell. This may be because I had never heard of it, let alone smelled it, until finding B&B. To someone who grew up in Germany, they may associate the scent with old men. I would look at those aftershaves that don't come with that kind of baggage. Maybe Mandom?

Alt Innsbruck, smells delicious, and the likelihood of anyone you know having ever smelled it before is super slim. :thumbup1:

What about Bay Rum?? Have you tried that yet? Master Bay Rum is available in a huge bottle at Sally Beauty for around $5-$6.

What ever you do, make sure you avoid the horrors of Axe. You want to smell like a adult, not an unwashed teenager!!:001_rolle

Any non-staple drugstore scents will work. The ones you mentioned are classics and is the reason people associate them with older generations.

True enough, and there's a reason they've been around forever. I doubt that the "flavor of the day" AS's will have the staying power that the classics have maintained over several generations.

Pour on the Mandom a la Bronson and then get a new girlfriend and new friends. Just kidding. I think Hugo by Hugo Boss smells pretty young and woodsy. Girls seem to like it too. Next time you're in a department store give it a smell.

Aftershaves don't last long enough for it to matter.

On the other hand, colognes on younger men connote anything from age-inappropriateness at best to general cast-of-the-Jersey-Shore undesirability. But I was raised in genteel suburbia by a pack of popped-collar preppies, so who am I to say?

Check out the men's section of the Yves Rocher usa website. They are doing some interesting things in my opinion, and they have matching AS for their Edts-colognes.

I've been using Adidas Dynamic Pulse, and actually like both the scent and its efficacy as an AS. Not a woodsy scent, though. More "sporty" or "cologney" if you will. FWIW.

Scroll through the SOTD threads for the past few weeks until you see something that looks interesting that was introduced in the last 20 years or so (as opposed to the last 100 years or so).

+1!

I was going to recommend this if someone didnt. It's a more sport scent as mentioned, but it isnt strong at all. It just smells clean and doesnt linger forever or smell cheap. It's now on of my favorite aftershaved. I'm young (27), but dont want to smell like a teenager or old man. This is perfect. My favorite aftershave at the moment.

+ 1,000,000,000!!!

Drakkar was -->THE<-- fragrance that drove the girls wild when I was your age. I still think its appropriate for a early 20's guy.

Farenheit is another good one. Its a smoky/soap scent, very different from most of the "ocean mist" smelling stuff out today, but still young and fresh.

Thanks for all the responses, keep em comin guys! I'm going to put a list together and try to get a hold of some decants. Any recommendations on sources for decants would be appreciated as well.

Jovan Sex Appeal AS/Cologne is very close to your opening description. I'm partial to the stuff and I think it's underappreciated. It has a strong opening but dries down very well.

Walmart does not keep a sample bottle, however, if you wanted to try some on while you do your other shopping, they probably wouldn't object. :wink2:

Not all Walmarts carry it, so it's hit and miss.

And another one here for Adidas Dynamic Pulse. I think their Deep Energy is supposed to be a woodsy version, and I see it all the time on the store shelf next to DP.
