aftershave that works?

Hey guys

Looking for aftershaves balm/splash that actually works something that makes my skin looking good stopping redness and irritation for sensitive skin...something that will make my face/neck forget that I just shaved

What do you guys recommend?

Thanks

The ones I can recommend from personal use are TOBS Eton College, Jermyn St, and Sandalwood. Also Special Reserve, VIBR, Proraso green, and Captain's Choice Lime.

Nivea for sensitive skin is very therapeutic. Well not as luxurious feeling as more expensive products, it is very calming and moisturizing. Stay away from alcohol-based products if you have redness. Some witch hazel might help as well.

How long have you been shaving? I had redness for a month, and was obsessed with aftershaves. With better technique and products that I know work for me, I find I really don't need aftershave. I use it only because it feels nice, but no longer needed for therapeutic reasons.

I have used the Ogalalla after shave in a kind of experiment. Shave and put some on. A few minutes later put on some alcohol based cologne. Judge the burn and put a 1-10 number on it, based on a 10 rating being the burn level of the alcohol based cologne on the face immediately after shaving with no pretreatment. On this scale, Ogalalla reduces the burn from 10 to about 5, in my opinion. Not great science and very subjective, but it is a method of a sorts. Of course, every face is different, but it gives a basis for comparison. I plan to try this with other aftershaves.

I don't think any of them will make you totally forget you just shaved. After all, you've just scraped your skin with a metal blade. Of course, the shave soap, razor and blades also have something to do with your results. However, I find comparisons like this kind of interesting.

I have a very problematic skin condition and DE shave on doctors orders.

I only use balms. DR Harris (Arlington and Windsor) and Castle Forbes (Lime and Lavender). If I'm out for dinner or other events I use TOBS Jermyn Street.

These balms are a joy to use and really work wonders if you have a sensitive skin!

I tend to use different products depending upon the time of year. Seeing as you are in Oz where the winters are not too savage, I would suggest trying Proraso, Speick or Skin Bracer splashes. They are not expensive and are all good performers.

And as others have mentioned, it is better to work on your technique and eliminate the irritation whilst you still have the razor in your hand rather than fighting it after the event.

Good luck!

If you are looking for something to soothe and refresh the skin after a shave and you tend to have irritated skin then I would recommend a balm.

I have this guy below and not only does it smell great but if I had a rough shave or my skin is irritated it really helps to freshen and soothe. The scent is also great and mild. A touch of menthol and eucalyptus as well to cool burning skin.

Pre de Provence Balm works head and shoulders above the rest for me (as far as soothing and irritation) out of Trumper's Skin Food, Baxter of California, Speick (splash), Ogallala Bay Rum, and Real Shave Co.

Followed closely by Corn Huskers Lotion.
