Aftershave Choices

So after reading till my eyes bled I have a question in relation to aftershaves. Obviously there are a LOT of them out there, unfortunatley here in Australia it is quite difficult to track many down.
While reading about them is fun and seeing how people describe the scent is even funner (not sure if thats a word) I myself woud like to actually experience the scent prior to purchase. :)

That being said is there anywhere or anyway to get samples the check out.??? (Shippable to Australia of course)
Like blade sample packs. Ive had a look around but cant seem to find any so ANY info or help would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks for the link turtle. It's such a pain here as we have such a small variety of aftershaves. Hence me wanting some kind of sample before I lay down $50 or more on something I may not like.

If you can't find a sample vendor down under then your best bet is to consider what scents you like and don't like. Discussing scent is tricky but if you can focus on the component scents (citrus, sandalwood, etc) versus people's impressions of scents (modern, old man, fresh, etc) then you'll be more likely to find discussion to be productive. I do agree that experiencing the scent is the best way to determine if you like an aftershave or not but that's not always practical.

I'm not sure how large the Australian wetshaving community is but I wouldn't worry over here in the US as just about anything can be BST'ed. You might want to see if you can determine what your odds are of selling off anything you don't like down there.

You could try sending an email to the manufacturers in Australia. Imperial Leather shipped me a full bottle of AS to try at one stage. I did not like it so I PIF'd it.

In Oz, The Brut bottle is quite good (200ml is the best). The Glass one (100ml) is good too but was too much for me (scent too strong). I use it to decant the 200ml now.

The Shaver Shop doesn't have much unfortunately. It depends if you are after a splash or a balm also?

The Shave Shed is an Australian provider that offers B&B members a standing 10% discount (code B&BOFF10). Their selection isn't huge, but they do have a few great options. The Proraso Green splash and White balm are both world class, as are the Musgo Real splash and balm. I know you asked about samples, but all four of those products are VERY well reviewed and have had their scents described in depth here in the forums. They might be a great place to start if you can't find any smaller decants. Just a thought...

As always thanks for the advice guys. I took Luc's advice and emailed some of the local companies. One has already offered to send me some samples and I shall review them once they arrive.

I believe the proper term is "more funnerer".

Thanks,
Mike
