after shave alum use

Is it normal to feel a little sting after applying alum to your face?Especially on the hard to shave areas (on and under the jaw line).:001_rolle

Yeah, Its a good indicator on where your technique slacked a bit and cut too close to skin or put pressure on blade. The reason the stinging is most obvious under jaw line is because, as you say, these are the hard to shave areas and there is more chance of slipping up when shaving there, myself included. Alum is great for sterilizing skin post shave and closing pores to prevent irritation and helps reduce razor burn significantly. You will also be sure to pay closer attention to shaving technique knowing that you will be using the alum afterwards, OUCH, haha! :bored:

Alum stings are a great indicator of how good your shaving system is.
With numerous cartridge razors and DE razors with DE blade combinations and with various creams and soaps - I get next to no alum stings.
But with other more aggressive razors and super sharp DE blades and with some lousy creams and soaps, I get heaps of stings and occasional nicks.
I continually get the most alum stings from using cheap one or two blade disposable razors.

And sometimes, I get more or less stings because of technique - because I was rushed, worried that the plumber was going to turn the water off.
Regards,
Renato

I use it every time on my face and on my head. The more damage you did to your epidermis with the razor, the more stinging you will have. Especially apparent to me if I shave AGT.

Great answer, even with a proper technique, I quess you would still get some sting from the alum, correct?

No. I rarely get the sting from the alum. I love it though as my understanding is it closes the pores and is an antiseptic. My take on it is I use AS lotion always, so if you close the pores first, you wont clog the pores with the AS. YMMV.
