I get some here and there but not everyshave. Maybe once every week or forthnight... Sometimes less...

I still get one or two every so often. More when trying out a new blade, size, or style than anytime else.

+1

I can get decent shaves with most of my razors but there's always room for improvement. Pusing things a little means the odd nick.

Might be worth downgrading your expectations for the final result and going for a few slightly inferior but bloodless results.

After Joel's video a while back I often go for the one pass shave. Doesn't give me the closest shave but I rarely get nicks with one north-south pass and the room for improvement is huge, yay!

There's a lot of variables in cut-throat shaving, leanring to hone I'm pretty happy to get a decent shave with one or two nicks from a razor I've honed myself from blunt. If I get something scary sharp fresh from a pro I have to change my technique a little from my usual home made numbers.

Maybe I should start a topic "2 years plus of de shaving and I still get nicks".

My dad likes to boast he never gets nicks from the 40's superspeed I got him a few years ago - his definition of a close shave is rather different to mine and he's quite happy with the shaves he gets, I'm planning on improving 'till I can't shave any more. All going well he'll still be getting socially acceptable shaves in 20 odd years with the ss and I'll be able to shave with a rusty beer can, or sharpen it to hht then shave.

Been DE shaving for about 6 years and I still get the occasional nick. Got a bad one a few days ago. Almost as bad as some of my Straight nicks (only 4 shaves in). I get the nicks mainly when I am in a rush and not concentrating as much as I should.

This is usually when they happen. I have a few in my rotation, so using the same blade for 2 shaves in a row just doesn't happen. Additionally, I rarely shave every day.

I don't get them every time, no. But, often enough.

I like this.

Anyone else got any "battle scars" from straight shaving? I have one good one, or bad one rather, on my face. I've been applying vitamin E for a few months and I think it is fading some.

I'm about a month and a half into the whole straight shaving thing, and I definately still get nicks. By nick I mean visible red line after done with the shave. At this point I consider this an improvement, in the first couple of weeks I had a big problem with gashes.

Which brings me to your question about "battle scars". The hardest part for me to shave has been my chin, where my hair is thicker, and dispite various contortions used while trying to stretch the skin there, it will not become taut. I had been shaving ATG there because this seemed to produce less nicks, but one day about two weeks into the straight shaving adventure, I put a half inch long vertical gash in my chin. The next day I decided to go WTG instead. Not paying attention to where I was on my face in relation to the previous day's gash, I preceded to put a half inch long horizontal gash right in the middle of the previous gash. Both cuts make a perfect right angle to each other and are centered almost perfectly. If I tried to carve a perfectly symetrical cross on my chin I could not do a better job than I have already done. This is why my first razor has earned the moniker: "The Red Cross". Needless to say I did look like a ninny for a good long while, but it is fading, and hopefully will not be a perminant addition to my face.

I still get some occasional nicks also. Like others have said; it's when I try something different in the quest for a perfect shave. If I stay with my standard routine I'm normally nick free.
